MOMMA KNOWS… leopard print accessories pop your look!

photo 2-2

These Christian Loubtouin leopard print pumps are oldies but goodies – they never go out of style and they always transform an outfit!

Last week I focused on my favorite clothing in this timeless trend but this week is all about the fabulous leopard print accessories you need to tweak your look for fall. Those bags and shoes that don’t have to match a color or event because they’re so fabulous they make your look!!  You can even pair your favorite leopard print accessories with other patterned clothing because as I’ve previously mentioned the clash is cool (and I’m not just talking about the band).  Whether patent or calf skin or just good old fashion leather (or faux)  these are the accessories you need to pop everything from your classic little black dress to your weekend jeans and a t-shirt uniform.  Leopard print accessories never go out of style – they always look effortlessly chic – and here are some of my latest favorites!

MOMMA LOVES… halloween costumes time!!

photo

This is just a fun one for me!!! Who doesn’t love some halloween costumes for the little ones! So far Max made his debut as peas in a pod and then rocked a muscle-y spiderman costume last year… so what do you think for this year???

It’s the start of holiday season and October 31st  is around the corner, meaning it’s time to check out halloween costumes!  I must confess, my child may not know much about holidays just yet but he loves a good pumpkin patch, pumpkin carving and dress up time!!  Halloween costumes are endless entertainment for us as parents and they embody what it means to be young and use your imagination. When I was a kid my mom would tirelessly work for weeks making our costumes, and I truly admire those mom’s out there plugging in the hot glue guns and saddling up to the sewing machine, however I’m lazy and store bought costumes are so flipping great these days!!  From superheros to the phenomenon that is Frozen and everything in between are available and ready to delight our little ones (and let’s face it, the adults who love them).   So get your camera’s ready because it’s halloween costumes time and I’m rounding up some of my favorites for you guys (PS – I totally bought Max’s the moment they started hitting the shelves 2 months ago – waiting is not my strength).

MOMMA KNOWS… the need for tweed

photo 2-2

I am a jacket addict so a little tweed jacket, like this Roland Mouret always grabs my attention… It’s one of the things that truly makes me excited for fall!

photo 1-2

Tweed is a quintessentially fall fabric, thick enough to keep you warm and chic enough to keep you stylish!

photo 1-2

PS – it’s still 90 degrees in southern California – Max is still desperate for a cool down but nothing will impede my need for tweed!

No fabric says fall quite so well as tweed. Braking out one of my little tweed jackets makes me so happy and literally makes me want to go frolic in fallen leaves.  Those perfect woven pieces that give you the right combination of warmth and elegance.  The classic Chanel tweed jacket is still my unicorn – I have and shall continue to search for my perfect version while saving up the fortune it costs and dabbling with the many knock off versions of the iconic fashion staple.  Also, it should be noted – this isn’t your grandma’s tweed of yore – this tweed is fresh, well cut, and incredibly chic!  The cool weather means breaking out your warmer garments, it means layering up and it means proper style can emerge (say good bye swimwear and denim cut offs).  Nothing says chic and stylish quite like the perfect tweed piece that can take you from the park to the office to dinner with friends.  Check out some of my favorite options and get on board with your need for tweed.

MOMMA LOVES… some patent leather accessories

photo 2-2

I bought this YSL bag a couple years ago when I was living in London – I proclaimed it would be my “rain” bag as I wouldn’t have to be precious about it if it got wet… But living in Southern California where we seem to constantly be in drought and so many years after buying it, this bag is still a go-to favorite. Moral of the story, patent is chic AND practical (and withstands the test of time)

There is something so magnificent about patent leather accessories…  It’s that cross between feeling dressed up, cool and even (strangely) practical.  I say that because when I was living in New York and then London I was justify all my patent leather accessories purchase with the statement “they look great and they’re waterproof!”  Okay, so you can’t take your fabulous patent shoes and bags for a dip in the ocean, but they’re what I break out when a downpour occurs and I want to look great without ruining my nice leather pieces.  Patent leather accessories come in every hue and style – from blacks and nudes to neons and prints and I’m a huge fan.  They’re shiny and slick giving an overall look of being polished but there’s also that bit of an edge that can give you a great classic with a twist look that I’m so fond of.  Check out some of my favorite patent leather accessories and break them out for any turbulent weather, or just because they’re fabulous!

MOMMA WANTS… leopard print clothes

photo 1-2

A great leopard print piece never goes out of style and is effortlessly chic for every occasion.

photo 2-2

Leopard print is the perfect way to add instant style to the most simple look.

Few patterns withstand the test of time and trend, leopard print clothes are certainly one of those mainstays.  Equally sexy, sassy and cool this animal print looks fabulous at any age and any genre of style.  Leopard print clothes can looks adorable on your little girl, fun on your high school student, ultra cool on your 20 something neighbor, sophisticated with a bit of an edge on you and even elegant on your grandmother – now that’s a pretty epic test of time.  Whether traditional and contained or wild and reinvented (in neons hues and oversized spots) this pattern is a must have for every wardrobe.  You could clash it with any other prints (which as I’ve mentioned previously is incredibly popular right now) or wear a simple piece with jeans or a simple pencil skirt – but leopard print clothes are not only versatile in terms of age and personal style but also occasion.  You could wear the same little leopard print top to the park with your kids, to a business meeting and out for drinks with the girls.  Check out some of my favorite leopard print clothes and pop your look with pattern!

MATERNITY MONDAY… chic pregnancy clothes (they exist)

Chic pregnancy clothes are like the holy grail of maternity wear.  That’s right things you can wear throughout your term that are work, weekend and evening appropriate and make you feel and look like you rather than a wolf in mrs. roper’s clothing…  The amazing thing is that these chic pregnancy clothes don’t have to cost you and arm and a leg – styling your bump can be fun and fashionable without breaking the bank!  The fact is, for the most part, you only wear your maternity clothes for a couple of months so you don’t want to spend a lot, but you still have to get dressed in the mooring so you still want to look nice!  There are incredibly chic pregnancy clothes that will tick all of your style, comfort and budget boxes for this very reason.  And, then there is one of my favorite maternity lines, Hatch, which may be a bit more expensive but is designed to be just as wearable post pregnancy!! Check out some of my favorite chic pregnancy clothes and show off your bump with pride and style!!

MOMMA KNOWS… spring 2015 fashion trends (europe has spoken)

http://www.style.com

Europe has spoken the sprint 2015 fashion trends are here – everything from sheer, cropped, cutout, menswear, embellishment and gladiator have emerged – and it’s all spectacular! All pics courtesy of style.com (l-r L Balenciaga, Givenchy, Celine & Balmain –  photos by: Monica Feudi)

London, Milan and Paris runway has shown and the spring 2015 fashion trends have emerged and it looks like everything is going to be sexy, fun, futuristic and fabulous.  As we saw in during the New York collections black and white dominated the runway but the european shows gave us a more glamorous edgier side to look forward to.  Spring 2015 fashion trends seem to be a very slow shift from fall/winter as we still see plenty of traditionally cold weather fabrics and hues but with a bit more skin…  The european collections have always been more directional, experimental and edgier – we don’t just see where fashion will be in the next 6 months but where it’s going well beyond that…  Some things that come down the runway (which you can see more of on style.com may never see the light of Bergdorf Goodman’s racks but may just make it on to the red carpet and the pages of vogue.  The Spring 2015 fashion trends we see on the runway today will certainly be moderated for public consumption, but it’s a beautiful thing to see where it starts…  Fashion, after all, is an art and far more than the sum of the clothes on our back.  Enjoy my preview of the spring 2015 fashion trends – it’ll give you some inspiration for what you can buy this fall that you will be able to keep wearing come spring!

Mad men – 60′s & 70′s eat your heart out!  That’s right, everything from a bit of floral print hippie boho chic 60′s at Gucci, Chloe, Valentino and even Prada to a touch of 60′s mod at Versace and Balmain progressed into super hot 70′s studio 54 glamrock chick (or chic as the case may be) courtesy of Tom Ford and Saint Laurent.  The 60′s and 70′s have long been 2 of my favorite fashion decades and now the merging of these retro stylings means we have a LOT to look forward to come spring. Kate Moss, eat your heart out – swinging london meets boho traveller has exploded on the runway (think Edie Sedwick and Bianca Jagger had a baby) aka fashion heaven.  Micro mini shift dresses, grommets, caged silhouettes with peekaboo plastic,  clashing floral prints under suede trench coats and those 3 70′s s’s (sequins, sheer and shine) are major and certain to set your fashion heartbeats racing!

Black, white and black & white…  As I mentioned after New York collections – one of the big spring 2015 fashion trends is the colors black (on black), white (on white) and, of course, black on white.  While you will find New Yorkers in black all year round it’s rare for it to be so dominant on the runway for Spring but here is it – black is the new black, white is the new white and it’s all about looking clean and crisp.  I would talk about who featured this trend but it was so dominant there was hardly anyone who didn’t!  So hold onto your black and your winter whites because they’ll take you through the next 12 months!

Pretty pastels – while black and white reigned supreme we did see a nice bit of pastel injections throughout the european collections.  Pretty powdery hues of pinks, lavenders, blues and so forth peppered the runway bringing color to spring.  Powerhouse designers such as Fendi, Balenciaga and Christian Dior made sure to include some sprinkles of these pastels to take us back to our warm happy place.

Leather and Suede – that’s right, another one of the unexpected spring 2015 fashion trends was the presence of leather and suede, a traditionally cold weather fabric made it’s way on multiple runways.  For spring the leather seemed lighter in weight and was often laser cut to create a more interesting warm weather dimension.  With design houses such as Versace, Fendi, Chloe, Chanel, Givenchy, Mcqueen, Chanel, Gucci & Prada it is impossible to ignore the fact that we will all be wearing leather still come Spring!

Coats (for spring?)  Once again, it appears that designers aren’t quite ready to let go of Fall just yet because there were plenty of coats in the Spring/summer collections.  Everything from trench coats to duster were heavily (pun intended) featured.  Perhaps we’re looking forward to another very long winter and designers want to make sure they have plenty of layering options… Also, lets not forget that we tend to start to see the spring collections hit stores when snow is often still on the ground – so smart move! Versace, Gucci, Christian Dior, Chanel, Prada, Balenciaga, Celine and so many others made sure to include a spring coat for your layering “warm” weather pleasure.

Gladiator – that’s right, New York we saw utilitarian, military influences and while we still see a hint of that in the Mialn and Paris collections the gladiator clearly dominated.  Givenchy, Valentino, Chloe and Alexander Mcqueen included a truly desirable gladiator influence from the amazing footwear (get me those shoes!!) to the more editorial headpieces at McQueen.  From toga inspired (with a beautifully feminine 60′s touch) at Valentino and Chloe to proper foot soldiers ready to do some battle at Givenchy and McQueen I think the gladiator trend is going to have many layers of fabulous come spring!

Cropped and cutouts aren’t going anywhere!  As we saw during New York collections (and for this Fall and last Spring) cropped tops and cutouts are here to stay (well, at least until fall 2015 then who knows).  The midriff continues to reign supreme among the fashion elite so keep doing those crunches and put down the oreos (she says while tucking into her 3 package of pumpkin oreos).  All you have to do is check out Versace, Fendi, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Balenciaga, Tom Ford, Celine and Balmain (to name a few) to know the cutout and cropped trend is alive and even dominant.  Of course there is a new modern, even futuristic (whilst still referencing 60′s mod) take on cutouts which is interesting – everything from caged to laser cut to slashed – designers are certainly not resting on their laurels by coming up with new innovative takes on last season’s trend.

Sheer and Mesh – again, not a new trend but the take on is fresh and modern while still referencing that 60′s mod.  Now you see it now you don’t is the name of the gam – it’s illusion its layered – the sheer and mesh spring 2015 fashion trends has more texture than ever before.  Micro mesh to wide netting was layered over over and under garments giving new dimension to spring looks giving a sexy yet coy appeal.  We saw mesh and sheer everywhere including at Versace, Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Givenchy and Tom Ford to name a few – it was one part rock chick and one part modern muse but 100% fabulous.

Future perfect/Architectural – designers have been playing with structure, silhouette and the idea of what will the future hold since the days of Cristobel Balenciaga and Christian Dior – and here we are decades later  still playing with these notions.  Of course, textiles have come such a long way that it’s completely awe inspiring to see how this futuristic, architectural trend continues to emerge.  Structure is supreme and silhouettes exaggerated  to create surprisingly desirable garments that will make phenomenal editorial images but can still be wearable (once the volume has been condensed) for the marketplace.  This futuristic /architectural trend wowed fashionistas at Balenciaga, Dior, Givenchy, Alexander McQueen and Balmain’s runway shows just to name a few.

Embellished – while there were a lot of austere minimal moments for spring there were also a lot of over the top details.  Embellishment may not have dominated but it was certainly widely featured and put some flash into fashion.  Everything from feathers and appliqué to sequins and beading made pieces that much richer.  Exquisite details at Fendi, Saint Laurent, Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Celine, Chloe, Givenchy, Balenciaga and Tom Ford gave an extra luxe touch to the collections.

Menswear vs Ladylike – everything from pretty polished to slouchy cigarette pants and blazers or vest came together on the runway.  The play on masculine and feminine  reigned supreme and it was all about tailoring.  The ladylike pieces were all about fit, flare and femininity while the menswear inspired pieces were all about exquisite tailoring and a long and lean silhouette.  Every designer was loving on this masculine/feminine play – but some of my favorites were: Tom Ford, Chanel, Celine, Balmain, Fendi and Dior.

Sporty spice – another trend that’s not going anywhere is the play on sportswear.  Techno fabrics and sporty styling giveaway to an athletic aesthetic which plenty of designers are still including in their collections. Balenciaga, Fendi and Versace all included nods to the sporty trend.  Perhaps it’s the masculine/feminine, sheer/mesh and cropped/cutout trends that naturally lend themselves to a more sporty look but whatever it is – it’s working out (ha ha pun intended).  Whether you prefer a more feminine tennis inspired little dress or a more literal cropped top and shorts look these style will certainly inspire you to get to the gym (while looking fabulous en route).

And of course we still saw quite a bit of red, mixed media, florals and clashing prints – so hold on to your fall wardrobe because spring 2015 fashion trends aren’t such a huge deviation – it’s all about mixing, matching and celebrating the trends that resonate with you and your personal style!  Street fashion is so huge and such an inspiration for today’s designers because the modern approach to style is all about what real people are really wearing – how we’re putting our looks together.  We are the modern muse – so when these trends hit the store always make sure to shop for your own aesthetic – what you are most connected with – this is what modern style is all about.

The kids know a thing or 2 that we can learn – like how great fruit is picked straight from the tree and that fashion doesn’t have to be so serious!

A bit of cartoon style pop prints are heating up the Moschino runway courtesy of Jeremy Scott and I think it’s a trend both you and your little one can enjoy together!

One of my favorite things about fashion is when its injected with a bit of whimsy which makes adding cartoon style pieces to your wardrobe essential.  As the mom to a 2 year old boy, it can put a smile on his face but also check my fashion boxes.  I have made reference to Jeremy Scott for Moschino’s wild references to everything from Sponge Bob Squarepants to Barbie but pop prints have has a huge revival and is not without it’s own fashion pop culture history.  In fact pop culture is actually a perfect way to categorize these wild and humorous cartoon style references.  Andy Warhol would have totally given his thumbs up!  Our world today can be far too heavy so why not feature some of those childhood caricatures and wild cartoon style colors in our wardrobe.   Of course, our kids have always known what we are just starting to figure out – fashion doesn’t have to be so serious – why not put some joy into the world with your style?  Sartorially cartoon style will always get attention for it’s over the top flamboyance – but don’t worry, you don’t have to wear head to toe crazy to enjoy this pop art trend.  Check out some of my favorite cartoon style pieces for you and your little ones and pair some of these pieces into your wardrobe and throw some levity into your fashion arena.
