Once upon a time I would have told you that asymmetrical clothing was a bit cheesy, or young, but no longer – this style is back and it’s chicer than ever. Everything from one shoulder to uneven hem lines are exploding in stores and reinventing silhouettes. This isn’t your hi-low prom dress – asymmetrical clothing has been cut to perfection to not only flatter the figure but also add an elegant pop of something different. These unique pieces make a strong statement, for those of you that like odd numbers and things a little left of center, this is exactly the trend you’ve been waiting for. Check out some of my favorite asymmetrical clothing and indulge in being off in all the right place.
MOMMA WANTS… spiked accessories (rock n’ roll baby)
I’m all about adding a bit of an edge to my look so I am always drawn to spiked accessories. While not wanting to be injured by my own stiletto I absolutely love this touch of punk that’s not just edgy but also incredibly chic! A little bit of heavy metal on your bags an shoes might be exactly what you need to transform your look from classic to modern. These spiked accessories have been around for many seasons now and won’t be going anywhere any time soon, and while the more hardcore interpretations are more likely to find their way into Kate Moss’s wardrobe than Kate Middleton’s I think there’s plenty of room for some rock stud embellishments for all of us. Two of my very favorite design houses that have been embracing this trend for seasons now, Christian Louboutin and Valentino have taken the classic punk staples and translated them to high fashion fabulous. Check out some of my favorite spiked accessories that will certainly add a bit of rock star edge while holding down some uptown chic to your look!
First some super cool spiked shoes:
And some fabulous spiked bags:
MOMMA KNOWS… military style is on point.

The perfect military style piece is super hot for spring summer. Pair it with something more feminine to achieve perfect balance.
During the spring summer catwalks shows (ahem, Marc Jacobs) a new trend emerged – military style or utilitarian chic would be the next big thing. I’m not talking about camo necessarily but I am talking about shades of khaki and olive with some oversized pockets and detailing that would seem better suited for a soldier than a fashionista. That said, this military style is incredibly chic whilst still feeling incredibly cool. Giving a nod to our incredible men on the front line, this trend pays homage to the utility looks which blend fashion with practicality. Hey, anything that gives me more pockets I’m not mad at. So check out some of my favorite military style influenced pieces of the season and update your style with a utilitarian edge.
MATERNITY MONDAY… fabulous diaper bags!
Yes, I said it, fabulous diaper bags – you’re going to need something to lug around all the bits and pieces that you need for baby so you may as well love it! Accessories are my jam, I love some great bags and shoes – the fact that we need a carry all when we have a baby just means another reason to buy a bag. The modern day diaper bags are far from just practical – sure they come with a changing pad and all the pockets you could possibly need but they also come in in credible prints and styles that will make your friends who don’t have kids asking where you got it! Having a child means never leaving home without everything but the kitchen sink so you may as well have something stylish to lug it around in. Check out some of my favorite diaper bags that will not only service your new momma needs but also tick your accessory addict box! PS – also some cute dad bag options because babies usually come with 2 parents… And sometimes dad’s don’t want to carry your purse…

MOMMA LOVES… the layered look

This Crosby St. by Derek Lam layered top is one of my favorites… Its a perfectly pre-styled piece (actually 2 pieces) that immediately makes an outfit!
The layered look is that perfectly styled outfit that appears to have been meticulously planned yet entirely effortless. The brilliant thing is you don’t need a troupe of stylists to help you achieve this look anymore because so many designers are doing it for you. Designers know that playing the proportions and creating a layered look in one piece gives instant appeal because not only are you getting an item of clothing, you’re getting an outfit. No worrying about how items lay on top of one another or if something looks silly or bulky – the styling is done within the piece. Check out some of my favorite versions of the layered look that are perfect to wear now and perfect to transition you through spring in style!
MOMMA LOVES… jewelry reinvented

Finger bracelets or whatever you call them are hugely popular and there just some of the reinvented jewelry everyone is going crazy for right now!
What do I mean by jewelry reinvented? I’m talking about the new take on the tried and true – everything from ear cuffs to hand/finger bracelets to arm cuffs and body jewelry. The out of the box pieces that make you bling in a whole new way. Now a days jewelry reinvented isn’t just a one off, it’s got it’s own place in the spotlight – it’s hear, it’s different and it’s spectacular. It’s all about layering your pieces, it’s about your jewels making the statement for your outfit in new innovative ways. This jewelry reinvented doesn’t have to be chunky or over the top – it’s often subtly and works in a way to just be a little something different yet captivating. Check out some of my favorite new jewelry reinvented and rethink the way you’ve been accessorizing…
MOMMA NEEDS… pleats please

Denim with a fitted blazer is my uniform – but I love to throw in a little pleated top to add texture and volume – pleats pieces might be exactly what your wardrobe is missing…
Whether accordian or box, pleats are always a major style hit. More fabric can mean more motion and these perfectly folded layers add movement to your favorite pieces. There truly is just something about pleats that makes me want to twirl – I don’t know if it’s a girly-nesss necessarily but there is certainly a feminine feeling. Super easy to wear, these pleats are exactly what you need to get ready for spring! They just add texture and dimension to a skirt, top or dress which takes it to a new design level. I’m a huge fan of pleats and these are some of my favorite pieces!
MATERNITY MONDAY… expectant mom style
Great maternity clothes is all about finding your expectant mom style. As I say time and time again here, pregnancy is not a disability, it doesn’t have to mean your aesthetic has to change – sure you need to be a bit more practical but stick to your brand ether and just find things with a bit more room in the middle. Whether you lean towards boho and flow or more structured and minimal, there are incredible options for every expectant mom style. Have fun during these 9 months, sleep loads, take care of yourself (let others take care of you) and yes, have fun with fashion (and take lots of pictures)! Check out some of my favorite maternity clothes to get the perfect expectant mom style you desire!
MOMMA WANTS… high waisted jeans

I love these J Brand high waisted flares. There just something different and they’re a nice alternative to the usual mid rise skinnies.
That’s right, it’s starting to look like it’s all about high waisted jeans ladies. Some people are even saying there’s a return to, dare I say it, mom jeans! I, personally, prefer to balance my high waisted jeans with a flare at the bottom to create a more figure flattering look but, believe me, there are plenty of the high waisted tapered numbers going around. The feel is very retro and I always believe that if you’re wearing something retro that it needs to be tempered with something more modern – or else it tends to look quite costume-y. There will always be a place for a lower rise denim but for now, at least, we can say good bye to plumbers butt which really does fill me with delight. Check out some of my favorite high waisted jeans and mix up your tried and trues with a new silhouette.
