Great gliders are often the centerpieces of our nurseries. Unlike everything else for our children’s room – these rockers aren’t something that we have to get rid of in a free years so they should be something you truly love. Our little ones quickly out grow their crib, changing table and even the decor in as little as 2 years, but the gliders are their to stay. Whether they remain in your child’s room as s/he grows or gets transferred into your room this is truly one of the most important pieces of furniture you will buy for your nursery and should be given plenty of thought and consideration. MOMMA NEEDS… furniture without corners

Childproofing doesn’t have to be an eye sore – it’s all about curves baby!

I’ve posted about this before, but furniture without corners is an absolute must hone you have children. Having lived in the land of childproofed foam corners I’ve learned my lesson – curved edges look great but are also great for peace of mind. Having a toddler means never sitting down, never taking your eye off the ball and always playing defense, which is why furniture without corners are our first step at protecting our little ones. Listen, accidents happen, they move so quickly and as much as we are right there, having furniture that we love that also don’t double as toddler booby traps is pretty awesome. MOMMA NEEDS… child proof furniture

Child proof furniture means a great couch, chairs and tables with rounded edges that give you piece of mind whilst still looking incredibly chic!

As my little Max grows my worries increase rather than decrease and so does my need for child proof furniture. When he first started walking I quickly put foam corners on all the sharp edges, moved everything that could be knocked over higher and out of reach and put locks on all the cabinets… What I didn’t realize is that as he grew and became more agile the baby proofing would have to get higher and higher and his ability to rip off the foam corners and undo the locks made my attempts to keep him safe seem futile. The truth is, what I should have done from the beginning is to invest in some child proof furniture. What I mean by this is, softer furniture and pieces with rounded edges – so that when he climbs, trips, falls (which they ARE going to do no matter what) my fears can be assuaged with the knowledge that I have at least reduced the risk. I’m not suggesting turning your home into a version of My Gym – child proof furniture simply means choosing pieces you love that just happen to be more kid friendly (aka – not something out of the baby booby trap catalogue). Our glider is my favorite part of his nursery – I spent many nights breast feeding from it – and now there’s nothing like curling up with him and reading a good book!

When you’re pregnant you start thinking of all the things you need for when the baby comes – everything from diapers to the all important gliders and rockers. Gliders and rockers are a must have for your nursery – a great chair that you can sit in comfortably to breast feed, relax in or rock your precious angel to sleep. You will spend a lot of your time in this chair and for years to come – it was one of the major purchases in our nursery we did not want to cut corners on. MOMMA KNOWS… the importance of child friendly furniture

When your little one gets mobile – its all about finding child friendly furniture – rounded edges and cushioning are key (and they look a lot better than those foam baby proofing corners)

As soon as your little one starts crawling you realize – your home is a death trap its time for consider child friendly furniture – so that you can keep your home chic without having to bubble wrap the living room. Baby proofing can be overwhelming – it seems everything in your home can inflict harm on your beloved little ones – which is why child friendly furniture is so desirable. Its normal furniture we know a love with rounded edges and softness that allows us to keep our big girl home while feeling comfortable that it won’t cause injury to our little girls and boys… This does not, however, mean you can rest easy and take your eyes off of them for one minute – newly mobile infants and clumsy toddlers can always find trouble – it just means that you can rest a little easier. Our home in LA dominated by our little one…. The big question – can we find a middle ground – a grown up home that can also feel like a very cool playground…

MOMMA NEEDS… beautiful bedroom furniture

Max, I love having you here and you’re always welcome – but momma is reclaiming her bedroom!

Of course, there is always going to be a little space where you can keep your stuff too…

So my little boy is the most amazing thing on earth, BUT he has taken over my home – so I’m taking back my sanctuary with some new bedroom furniture and furnishings… That’s right, he can have the living room, the office, the kitchen, dining room and of course his own room – but I’m reclaiming mine! We have started with a new bed and mattress and it is starting to feel like a big girl room again. Some great new bedroom furniture and dressings is transforming my room back into a space for me and my husband and not another play space for my little one. I’m not saying its a no go zone for Max – this is his house, we’re just living in it! No, in order to have a beautiful space for me I have some beautiful bedroom furniture that can also hide his toys. We actually got a teepee for him that sits in the corner that is his little fort (and hides his toys). It actually looks very cool and modern so, not an eye sore for us – and a fun spot for him. Other alternatives are beautiful storage benches for the end of the bed or other potential pieces of bedroom furniture that look great but can store his mess! Moms and Dad’s need a sanctuary – a place to remember that they’re not just mom and dad but they’re also husband and wife, grownups that want a grown up space to call their own. I’m not saying go out and spend a ton of money – but if your bed is tired it might be time to treat yourself, even with just a new headboard – or perhaps just some new throw pillows, a bedside table or just a fun accent piece that makes you happy… The key with creating a little oasis is keeping the furniture pretty neutral (taupe, grey, cream, navy) and then choosing an accent color or 2 that work together and popping the room with accents – throw pillows, lamps, rugs, decoratives etc… Check out some of my favorite bedroom furniture and furnishings that give you the escape from all the barbies, legos, tucks and everything else that Toys R Us threw up in the rest of the house…
