MOMMA LOVES… the camouflage print – chic for us and adorable for them!

The camouflage print has been around for centuries and was used to conceal soldiers in the fields, allowing them to blend in with their environment thus harder for enemies to detect. The print didn’t become fashionable, outside of the military, until around the first world war and ever since it has been a prominent print that rivals the polka dot and herringbone in popularity. It is wearable for men, women and children and the print can be seen on everything from gowns to socks and everything in between. Recently, designers such as Michael Kors and Valentino have been using the camouflage prints in their high end designs adding a twist to otherwise very classic clothes and accessories. The versatility of the camo print makes it enormously wearable, covetable and on my wish list for both me and my little boy. I wanted to share some of my top picks with all of you…

Money can get super tight this time of year and the person we spend money on last is usually ourself… So, I wanted to do another one of my favorite fashion under 100 dollars. Three outfits for six different occasions and every item in the look is under $100. Just because you don’t want to spend a lot on style doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice it. I know, as a mom, I can’t spend on myself the way I once did. MOMMA WANTS – the little bright dress

As I have been saying – color illuminates. Bring light to the party this year in an amazing little bright dress – its the other LBD and its sure to stand out in a crowd. Every color in the rain bow (in every conceivable hue) is out there so chose your favorite and wow everyone in one of these incredible dresses. MOMMA NEEDS… rain gear for us and them

Well, with winter and fall often comes rain… Here in Southern California we may not get the snow but around this time of year we get all the rain we been missing. My son got to experience it for the first time about 2 weeks ago and the British boy in him was just obsessed with the puddles. He was loving jumping and splashing in the puddles (which deeply upset me since he was in a nice new pair of sneakers) and then he took things up a notch and decided to just belly flop into the tiny pool of rain water. Well, that was it, fun over – and I hauled him inside to get him out of his soaking wet clothes and decided it was time to invest in some rain gear. His rain coat and wellies quickly arrived and I was so excited to see precipitation in the forecast and sure enough, down it came. I am so thrilled to have bought appropriate attire for the him because he could not get enough! He didn’t mind that the boots were heavy and slowed him down – he waddled around having the time of his life… I put on my trusty Hunter wellies and joined him and we had the most amazing afternoon splashing about. Now that I have his rain gear (and of course still have mine from years of London living) I can’t wait to do it again! MOMMA NEEDS… bright tops for us & our little ones

A photographer once told me that he found people always looked best in his photos when they wore bright tops. People often stay with the safety of black, white, or neutral. In actual fact, bright colors bring light and color to faces, making them look healthier and happier. I have to say, whilst my closet is largely filled with a neutral palette, every time I wear a pop of color, I get compliments. Bright colors are usually reserved for spring and summer, but it’s winter, when days are short and our skin is pale, we actually benefit the most from wearing color! So, this is the first of a series of upcoming posts featuring a more colorful palette. Not only do bright colors illuminate our skin and look incredibly cute on our little ones, but they also help us keep an eye on each other in the park. MOMMA NEEDS… cardigans – oversized for me, sweet and cozy for the little one.

When the air gets crisp and the days short, there’s nothing I love more than to throw on oversized cardigans. I’m not talking Santa Claus size, I’m talking longer and a little roomy – a boyfriend or grampa cardi but slimmer and more feminine. It’s equal parts comfy cozy as it is effortlessly chic. MATERNITY MONDAY… non maternity clothes to wear through pregnancy & beyond

When my husband and I decided to start trying to have a baby, I stopped buying clothes. I stopped buying clothes because I kept thinking, well, I’m going to be pregnant – what’s the point of buying anything since I won’t be able to wear it? Well, it took ten months to get pregnant, then of course nine months of pregnancy before the nine (ahem, 12) months to get my pre-pregnancy body back. That’s almost three years without buying the very clothes I was coveting and when I could finally wear my old clothes again they were pretty much obsolete. What I did manage to find during this time were some NON maternity clothes that could see me through my pregnancy due to stretch and cut. I continued to wear them post pregnancy, when my body wasn’t back yet and still today, now that I’m back to my former shape! I’m not talking the Kim Kardashian approach to maternity – there’s not need to go high fashion and look, dare I say, a bit tragic…. I’m saying classic, yet comfortable.. The key is looking for fabric with stretch (anything jersey is generally perfect), ruched on the sides, empire waists, tops that are longer and fuller and don’t be afraid to wear a (formerly) mini dress with leggings underneath. It can be endlessly frustrating spending money on clothes you can only wear for a few months, then not again until (maybe) the next one… So, I wanted to share with you some non maternity clothes to wear through pregnancy and beyond, things I myself bought and still wear now!

MOMMA NEEDS… sparkly dresses for the holidays

Its holiday time ladies, so here it is, more party dresses for us! I’m focusing this post specifically on sparkly, shiny metallic dresses for all of your party needs – just because your a momma doesn’t mean you can’t be dazzling. Nothing transforms you as quickly as a sparkly frock, its amazing what a little shine can do. It may sound crazy, but dressing up is good for the soul. There are so few opportunities to do so and putting on a beautiful dress and doing your hair and makeup can truly breathe new life into you… The chance to not just be a mom for an evening but to be the glamorous woman we forget we can be most of the year.
