MOMMA NEEDS… fabulous workout wear

Theses are some images from the Solow look book I worked on – if you’re not familiar with the brand, you need to be – this is the perfect blend of activewear and fashion. I want to work out just to wear this stuff! (photos by Ben Cope)

Confession, I don’t work out – I’m not what on would call the athletic type but I do have a hankering for some of the fabulous workout wear I’m seeing. In fact I kind of want to workout just so that I can wear it (and look good in it). I actually have done a couple of styling gigs for Solow Style and I am officially obsessed with the line! Sexy yet chic – functional for the gym but stylish enough to take me to brunch – the workout wear of today has to be multi purpose. We all know the fascination in today’s world with yoga pants – how many times have my male friends commented about one of the great LA tourist attractions is pretty girls in yoga pants. Well, I think it might officially be time for me to shine a light on some of the incredible workout wear out there. Of course, I am partial to the Solow brand for its sexy rock and roll edge that my friend and creative director, Daniella Clarke has injected into the line – for people, like me, who are just dipping there toes into the idea of working out this allows me to feel more like me at the gym. MOMMA LOVES… some graphic prints

Great graphic prints are transformative – eye catching, beautiful and always a favorite!

I am always a huge fan of graphic prints – bold and strong they make a great statement without saying a word. A fabulous patterned piece puts a fun twist on an otherwise basic look. Everything from pop prints to florals and everything in between can be considered a graphic prints – it’s all about injecting a bit of eye candy to your wardrobe. Prints have long been popular and can be worn quite simply on their own or clashed, there seems to be an anything goes attitude to these brilliant statement pieces. And of course, as much as I am fan of some crazy patterns for myself, I’m an even bigger fan of graphic prints when it comes to dressing my little guy. A great pattern clash is super chic these days for the ladies but beyond adorable for our mini me’s!! MOMMA WANTS… a great pair of trousers

MOMMA WANTS… jewel tone dresses (from the red carpet to my closet)

There was one overwhelmingly evident red carpet trend that emerged at the SAG awards – jewel tone dresses are THE must have! Forget red, blue, green and purple – I’m talking about ruby, sapphire, emerald and amethyst – these colors are rich and expensive and transform a red carpet (and your closet) in the most beautiful way. My favorite jewel tone dresses from the SAG red carpet included Sophia Vergara va va vooming it in ruby red, Julianna Margulies sparkling in sapphire Giambattista Valli, pregnant Keira Knightly glowing in Erdem amethyst, Claire Danes in Marc Jacobs and Julianne Moore in Givenchy shutting it down in emerald. Or course, it took me less than 5 seconds to realize I needed these jewelry box colors in my life, no I won’t be walking the red carpet any time soon – but as much as momma loves a little black dress, I think it’s time to expand the color palette. Little jewel tone dresses for the office, running around town or date night are exactly what my closet is craving. So, thank you red carpet season for reminding me that colors always make a gorgeous statement and that jewel tone dresses are now officially at the top of my wishlist!

MOMMA LOVES… the turtleneck

This chunky Alexander McQueen turtleneck has been a long time favorite of mine – it keeps me warm and super stylish at the same time!

So, It’s the middle of January, and most stores are about to start receiving their spring shipments – but it’s still freaking cold out so a great turtleneck is still on the top of my must haves. Whether chunky or fine, rolled or funnel neck – it always looks chic while keeping me warm. A great turtleneck is your best shield against the frigid winter – it’s one of the so incredible pieces that never goes out of style because of its perfect blend of form and function. Whether body conscious and sexy or oversized and cool it’s the top of the season that you cannot be without!! Don’t get left in the cold (ha ha) make sure you’ve got a great turtleneck (or several) to get you through this year’s polar vortex!

MOMMA WANTS… pencil skirts (in every length)

We’re having a bit of construction done on the pool area – perfect opportunity to wear my pencil skirt? Makes me fee like a boss lady.

The pencil skirt is a great classic – it can be paired with pretty much everything – I like to balance this slim fit bottom with something a bit bulkier on top.

I’ve been a mini skirt kind of girl for a million years but I have a new love for pencil skirts. Whether cropped above the knee, right below the knee – or the new popular (although harder to pull off) tea length, which is about mid calf, this look is incredibly chic! Perfect for the office or a night out – this look is super slick sophisticated, lady like yet modern. You could pair these pencil skirts with everything from a feminine blouse, a polished blazer or even a chunky knit – they’re so streamline on the bottom they leave you free to go in any direction on the top. Figure hugging, yet flattering – it’s all about choosing the length and fit that best suits your height and frame. If you’re a petit look for petit sizes or opt for a knee length version, and if you’re taller, pretty much any length goes. MOMMA NEEDS… skinny jeans for always

A great pair of skinny jeans will take you everywhere!

They can withstand an adventure with your little one and still look fabulous!

Yup, skinny jeans are tried, true and not going anywhere but you’ll be going everywhere in them! They have withstood the test of time because they flatter every figure by creating a long, lean, slim line silhouette and who doesn’t want that. Skinny jeans tend to have quite a bit of stretch (otherwise how would we get these things on) so they hug your curves while also giving you a fair amount of support. This denim trend can be worn dressed down with a casual tee or knit or up with a sexy blouse or blazer for an evening out making it super versatile and always a great purchase that will get plenty of wear! MOMMA LOVES… tuxedo jackets (for you – not the man in your life)

This Rag & Bone tuxedo blazer is one of my favorites – it has leather lapels and even moderate tails. Super chic and actually very versatile!

As I have mentioned many times before – I love blazers and tuxedo jackets are basically just super special blazers! A satin or leather lapel and super elegant details transform the tried and true jacket into a truly unique piece for your wardrobe. Dress it down for day with simple jeans and and tee or dress it up for evening over your favorite little black dress or sparkly cocktail dress! The piece transitional beautifully from day to night!
