Peplum, for those unfamiliar, refers to when a garment has a short skirt-like attachment which creates an hour glass silhouette. It has made and enormous resurgence recently and can be seen on the runway, on celebrities and in every store for both women and their little ladies. The fit and flare look is always incredibly feminine yet also (conveniently) quite forgiving. The peplum attachment is often featured on tops, jackets, skirts as well as dresses and is simultaneously sexy, sweet and elegant. The silhouette is one part va va voom yet at the same time can help conceal the extra couple of pounds we might have packed on during the holidays – its basically a win win! The key to styling it is to pair a peplum item with something with a slimmer cut (a pencil skirt, skinny pant, fitted top) in order to create the always desirable fit and flare shape. It is equally adorable on our little girls – almost like a toned down tutu. The extra flounce of fabric gives an added girly-ness to any outfit which your mini-me will surely love!
