MOMMA LOVES… whimsical shoes

This is from a fairytale accessories photo shoot I style years ago with photographer Karin Catt.. There’s nothing like whimsical shoes to inspire, delight and captivate the little girl in all of us.

I love doing this post, and I’ve done a few in the past, but whimsical shoes are some of my favorite things. The whole idea of fashion as art has always resonated with me and I am constantly amazed by the innovative thinking behind some of the magnificent footwear out there. Incredible designers from Sophia Webster to Charlotte Olympia are breaking the accessories mold and putting out the most incredible whimsical shoes you could ever dream up. Yes, they can be insanely expensive and achingly impractical but they’re water cooler pieces – they’re talking points, outfit changers and sometimes, just something to fanatsize about. All of that said, these whimsical shoes are too fabulous to not get their moment in the sun. Too fantastical to not know about. MOMMA LOVES… black and white clothes

There’s nothing quite as classic and timeless as black and white clothing, which is probably why it’s always been a staple among the fashion set.

When I was 12 I stopped wearing color – I decided I would only wear black and white clothes going forward… And that lasted for a good number of years and was perhaps the moment, looking back, that my fashion future began. Of course, now I know far more (sort of) than I did then – and while black and white clothes will always look crisp, sleek and appropriate, I also know that they are the perfect palette for everything I want to add to my look. There’s a good reason this stark palette is the basis of pretty much every fashionista’s wardrobe. This post is focusing on black and white clothes – color (or lack of color) blocked – the yin and yang, the black and white cookie – the most graphic combination. Having these black and white pieces allow you to easily build your chic look from there. Whether you want to pair it with denim, keep the look monochromatic, add a touch of sparkle, or pop your look with a bold color – these are the foundation items for your closet. MOMMA LOVES… love motifs (just in time for V-day)

Spread joy with the love motif!

So yesterday I talked about my birthday and jewelry, well, with Valentines Day moment away I wanted to focus on love motifs in fashion that withstand trends and time. Everything from the iconic Cartier love bracelet to the word love and all the hearts that emphatically infiltrate our wardrobes (as well as our little ones). Reminiscent for the free love 60′s moment the love motifs reign supreme, and why not – perhaps all we need is more love in this world. Yes, camo and skull prints will alway be popular prints,but make no mistake, love is the yin to their yang and it’s nice to put as much as possible into the world – so I happily wear it on my sleeve! MOMMA WANTS… some beautiful personal jewelry

Me and my favorite arm candy – my little guy and the bracelets I never take off. Sleeping, showering or playing in the mud with you know who – these personal jewels are my second skin.

So, today is my Birthday, I am officially 28 years old (at least that’s what I would like for my birthday) and what better way to celebrate than with some beautiful new personal jewelry. These pieces aren’t chunky, and don’t make a loud statement – they’re the pieces we wear every day. MOMMA LOVES… scuba – (aka neoprene) the techno fabric

I am obsessed with this J Brand scuba top – it makes a statement but it’s so easy to wear.

Max gearing up for Valentines Day…. He’s got my heart, that’s for sure.

Neoprene, or scuba fabric has been around for a couple of seasons and this super cool techno fabric shows now signed of going anywhere. It’s essentially the fabric you think about divers wearing – water resistant and, depending on the thickness of the texture, able to take on some more interesting shapes while still being figure flattering. This scuba trend isn’t just for divers any more, that’s for sure as we see it at every price range and for everything from outerwear to boustiers – this techno fabric is an absolute must have. It can be super feminine showing off your favorite curves or be more boxy and masculine for a cool silhouette. Besides being pretty water resistant the added bonus of this techno fabric is it’s not particularly expensive so there are lots of great options that won’t break the bank. I am loving on scuba right now, so check out my favorite ways designers have reinvented neoprene.

Having a boy does mean less fun with hair and makeup play – so he gets to enjoy his bath time shaving kit!

MOMMA NEEDS… fabulous workout wear

Confession, I don’t work out – I’m not what on would call the athletic type but I do have a hankering for some of the fabulous workout wear I’m seeing. In fact I kind of want to workout just so that I can wear it (and look good in it). I actually have done a couple of styling gigs for Solow Style and I am officially obsessed with the line! Sexy yet chic – functional for the gym but stylish enough to take me to brunch – the workout wear of today has to be multi purpose. We all know the fascination in today’s world with yoga pants – how many times have my male friends commented about one of the great LA tourist attractions is pretty girls in yoga pants. Well, I think it might officially be time for me to shine a light on some of the incredible workout wear out there. Of course, I am partial to the Solow brand for its sexy rock and roll edge that my friend and creative director, Daniella Clarke has injected into the line – for people, like me, who are just dipping there toes into the idea of working out this allows me to feel more like me at the gym. And for those ladies who absolutely love the gym – they not only look incredible but they are exquisitely functional.
