MOMMA LOVES… a distressed tee

Life with kids is far from pristine – I had just taken off Max’s pants, socks and shoes after a romp in the mud – so I’m grateful for a distressed tee that is both fashionable and sensible for tackling whatever my little guy throws my way…

T-shirts are a wardrobe staple and the distressed tee is one of my favorite versions of the old classic. No, your parents will never understand them, but as a parent they allow me to feel comfortable, stylish and not at all precious about what I’m wearing during my rough and tumble life with a toddler. A distressed tee may translate to a few holes, cutouts, complete tatters, or just a bid of fading.. The tears can be finished or frayed but the look is done undone and its a perfect go to for your casual look. In fact, I remember in my early 20′s buying brand new tees and cutting them up, resewing them, and leaving jagged edges to get the undone look – and now we don’t have to put in all that effort because the deconstruction has been done for us by the designers themselves. Designers such as LNA are absolutely killing it with some of the best, most interesting tees on the market by not being perfect but rather being interesting, unique and with the perfect t-shirt fit! Whether you’re just running errands, hanging out at home or taking a trip to the park, the distressed tee gives us the fashionable freedom to embrace our relaxed come what may lifestyle without sacrificing our personal style! Summertime means popsicles, the outdoors and relaxation – denim shorts are my weekend uniform… and Max looks pretty adorable in them too!

Summer months mean its too hot for our tried and true blue jeans – so denim shorts are the way to go for running errands to poolside barbecues. Whether your prefer classic, colored, distressed, cut offs or cuffed – denim shorts are the easy breezy styling option to go with your favorite tanks and tees. Theses new Sophia Webster shoes are making my heart go pitter patter!

I have made no secrets about my love for Sophia Webster shoes… My butterfly shoes put a smile on my face every time I walk into my closet… In fact, when I wear them I get stopped every few minutes so that women (and men) can ask me about them, fawn over them and even take their picture… My Sophia Webster’s are quite the celebrity in these parts… Well, these new Sophia Webster shoes have caught my attention and I am completely fixated! They are stunning, innovative, metallic, neon – you know everything I could possibly want in a shoe… These shoes ARE the outfit – jeans and a white tee transformed, your old little black dress brought to life… They are style changers… I just had to share these with you because, well, if I can’t have them (and believe me – I want them – in a size 39 thank you), someone should!!!

MOMMA WANTS… hot summer makeup trends

The sun is out so its time to check out the latest and greatest makeup trends that will keep you colorful all season long! Loving the new light and bright hues for nails, lips and eyes!

The sun is shining – we’re wearing our little dresses and our stripy sandals so its time to check out the hot summer makeup trends to pop our look and keep us looking fresh. Good bye to my black polish and darker hues and hello to brights, pastels and healthy glowing skin. The summer makeup trends are all about pops of color against great skin. Everything from bright orangey corals and neon pinks to all shades of purple – the look is young, clean and bright. The key is not to go for an overly made up look – when the sun shines your skin should glow and your lips, eyes and nails should be colorful and pretty. No need to be hind the safety of shades of brown and grey – the summer months are all about experimenting with color – trying things you would never think of – truth is you just might LOVE it. SKIN: remember – fresh faces and radiant – skin should look clean and as though there is no actual makeup there (even for those of us who might want more coverage). Bronzer and blush should be used sparingly or in light creamy or gel form in order to give that natural sun kissed glow without looking heavy.

Remember, its always best to choose one are of the face to focus your color – if you want to go for color wash on the eye, keep lips neutral and for when you want a bright lip keep eyes clean with perhaps just a bit of eyeliner and mascara. EYES: Blues, greens, purples and everything in between are hot for liners and lids – try playing with variations on your eyes! A general rule of thumb is greens look great on green eyes, blues on blue eyes and purple on brown eyes but the fact is these colors CAN’T look bad! My favorite Clu mixed media tee – perfect for when I just want to be comfy but also look like I’m putting in more effort than I am….

Last week I focused on the accessories but mixed media clothing is just as prevalent and fabulous. I’m talking about leather and lace, cotton and silk – all those unexpected combinations that make an item that much more interesting. Mixed media clothing are more expensive looking and give a fashion edge to something a simple in silhouette as a t-shirt. Its all in the details – a panel of chiffon here, a leather trim there and its these flourishes that give your look a bit of a lift. MOMMA LOVES… mini bags (take a load off)

Mini bags like this fabulous Gucci are perfect for running around town, or an evening ON the town for when you just want/need to feel fashionable & free.

I have beginning to notice and huge influx of mini bags and I’m liking it! I’m not talking about evening bags – I’m talking about scaled down bags that can work for both day and night but give your poor back, shoulders and arm a much needed break. Mini bags don’t hold a lot – some money, keys, a cell phone – but it also sends the message to those around you that if they want something they’re going to have to carry it themselves. There resemble the larger versions in similar styles but they are a fraction of the size so far easier to carry around. They are also great for those of us who have been carrying around a diaper bag and our normal oversized tote – why not swap out that cumbersome bag for one of the amazing mini bags out there that give you the style you crave without the added weight.
