MOMMA LOVES… jelly shoes – they’re baaaaaaaccckkkk

Jelly shoes are perfect for all your summer outings – chic enough for brunch yet water resistant for the beach – I am loving my Asos and Max has goes everywhere in his Old Navy rubber shoes!

When I was in high school jelly shoes were HUGE and for many years I’ve looked back at pictures of myself wearing those clunky clear things and cringed… Well, they are back and they are chicer than ever!! Hard to believe that jelly shoes could be so stunning, but they are and the practicality of them is the added bonus. I remember having a friend and her 2 year old son over to hang out by the pool – I was admiring her gorgeous new sandals which she had taken off to sit next to me with her feet in the pool and the next thing we knew her little angle had grabbed them and thrown them into the deep end. So much for her gorgeous sandals. Well, jelly shoes are water proof so PERFECT for all your summer outings. They are also perfect for our little ones (I’m going to include various water proof shoes as well) because I, for one, have a little guy that wants to play at his water table, jump in the pool, run into the garden and, while bare feet are great, sometimes the stone around the pool is hot hot hot and not good for his delicate toots. MOMMA LOVES… summer accessories (to pop your look)

We love our summer accessories – not only are they cute!

Sometimes they can actually be functional too!

With the warmer weather we lose our layers – jackets, coats, sweaters all go into storage and outfits get simpler, so its up to summer accessories to give your look a bit of a pop. I’m not talking about bags and shoes – I do plenty of those posts, I’m talking about the less talked about scarves, hats, sunglasses and the like, which can truly make an outfit. A simple pair of shorts and t-shirt can go from bland to super stylish with the right hat and jewels. MOMMA NEEDS… fabulous beach bags!

Which way to the beach? Summer means popsicles, swimming, sunshine and beach bags baby!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, as women, we are labored with the task of carrying around everyone else’s stuff – and with plenty of summer outings ahead its time for some great beach bags. If we’re going to be the ones lugging the wallets, cell phones, cameras, change of clothes, swimsuits, sunblock, sunglasses, towels, food, drinks, diapers and toys around we should at least have a fabulous bag with which to do it! Beach bags should be large enough to carry everything we might need, durable (usually some sort of canvas) and should be in great colors or prints. These bags give that vacation feel even if its just an outing to your local park. Accessories are my jam so fabulous beach bags shouldn’t just be about the practical task of carrying a bunch of stuff from point a to point be – it we’re doing that anyway we may as well do it with flair! MOMMA NEEDS… cross body bags (be hands free!)

No, its not a basketball… but I CAN play basketball with my little one and carry my Givenchy pandora cross body bag at the same time!

As women we are multi-taskers taking on a million things while hauling everything but the kitchen sink with us, hence the true need for cross body bags. A bag that you can carry securely and comfortably which leaves you hands free to carry everything else (including your beloved little ones). I cannot tell you about the intense shoulder pain I suffer from due to the weight I carry around in my shoulder bag, so cross body bags are a welcome change, not only for allowing me to manage more things (whilst carrying everyone else’s stuff) but also for providing some much needed physical relief. Fortunately, never have cross body bags been more popular and for every taste, size and price point than right now. Whether you want to go out for a night of dancing without the burden of carrying around your hand bag or if you’re a mother toting around diapers, toys, wipes and everything else your husband and child can labor you with – this is the bag you have to have. MOMMA NEEDS… flat sandals for the warm weather ahead!

The hot weather means its time for a cool off and time for sandals! Max in his Old Navy flip flops and me in my K. Jacques t-straps will be poolside if you need us!

The weather is warm and its time to pack all those socks in a drawer and bring out the flat sandals for summer. A great friend of mine back in New York would always look at me teetering around the city in sky high heels on location scouts and tell me, “I think it’s time you freed your feet.” I bought a pair of K Jacques St. Tropez flat sandals and never looked back! With the great warm weather ahead we want to be running around outside as much as possible so its time to invest in the appropriate footwear. Great flat sandals are a essential for the months ahead – they lwill give you the freedom to enjoy the great outdoors comfortably and stylishly. I put some sandals on Max for the first time the other day so that he could enjoy playing at his water table and running in the grass while still protecting those precious feet, they’re going to take some getting used to but boy are they cute! MOMMA NEEDS… a clutch for evening

My beloved Alexander McQueen skull clutch – on the clutch!

I’ve always felt that an evening clutch was not really a necessity. We don’t use it every day and it doesn’t it all that much. That said, every now and then I would find that I had a wedding to attend or a fancier dinner to go to and I just didn’t have the right bag. I had fallen in love with this Alexander McQueen clutch years ago and could not justify such a crazy purchase for something I would get such little use out of… Well, after a couple of years and many moments when I wished I had the bag I finally took the plunge. The truth is, we do need an evening clutch. We may only wear it a handful of times a year but if you buy something you love that can withstand the test of time – you can wear it for years and years, furthermore there are so many incredible clutches that are really inexpensive. Also, now that I have the bag I am using it so much more than I ever thought I would. Why carry a huge day bag on an evening out with friends or a romantic dinner with the hubby when I have my beautiful petit clutch? All I need for the evening is my phone, some cash, credit card, ID, keys and perhaps a lipstick or powder… PS – I have to say, whenever I’m attending a wedding, I also throw in some safety pins and double sided tape – it takes up no room and I’m amazed at how often a frazzled bridesmaid will find my table and ask: “you’re a stylist, right? the bride is having a fashion emergency in the bathroom!” My husband may not thrilled that he now has to carry his own wallet and phone but I’m happy to give my poor shoulder the night off! The key to finding the perfect clutch is to consider your personal needs and likes. If you want to be practical go for something metallic (gold or silver), black or sparkly that can go with pretty much everything everything. If you want something a bit more special go for a pop of color or something a bit quirkier or edgier that’s not particularly practical but certainly makes a statement (I find that my Alexander McQueen bag is so crazy it actually makes me want to find reasons to carry it).
