MOMMA LOVES… art inspired fashion

One of my favorite trends is always art inspired fashion. It simultaneously looks incredible but has a nostalgic quality about it that reminds me of the freedom of being a child. I love that Max is now at an age when we can paint, draw, play with play dough and just do the creative things together that I really enjoyed during my childhood. Its almost as though we get to a certain point in life and forget how to get our hands dirty and be artsy and i’m in a creative profession! Hence, art inspired fashion – which can be anything from a pop print to a specific artistic reference really catches my eye. While some may worry that art inspired fashion is too bold, loud or out of their wheel house it isn’t. Take a watercolor floral print blouse and pair it with your favorite jeans, summer is coming and who doesn’t want a pop print sun dress? Its just a fun, colorful, vibrant way to dress and it might just inspire you to get some arts and crafts together for you and your little one to enjoy! MOMMA NEEDS… a blazer for spring

Yesterday was the first day of Spring – its time to roll out the spring time blazers!

I live in blazers, so when the weather starts to turn warmer I love a light jacket to add a bit of polish to my look.

As I have mentioned here before, I am a jacket addict. Everything from leather to tweed and from biker jackets to blazers – I just can’t get enough. And now it’s time to find the perfect blazer for spring. I know many of you are still in the midst of a polar vortex but spring time is a coming and the perfect blazer is just what you need to get you ready for warmer weather while still being able to layer it up for the enough already cold. What makes a blazer for spring different from every other blazer is a fabric weight and perhaps even a move away from classic black. That’s right, white, beige, navy, even a pop of real color might be just what you need to add something special to your look while still remaining classic. The blazer is the perfect piece of clothing – its conservative enough for work, yet comfortable enough for chasing little ones while still being cool and stylish enough to feel dressed up for an evening. You can pair a blazer for spring with everything from jeans to dresses to shorts and everything in between. It can simultaneously dress down an outfit or dress up an outfit – the versatility makes it one of those must have pieces for every wardrobe. So, a few days ago I did a post on perforated clothes and accessories which is really part of a much larger trend – the sporty trend. Athletic inspired clothing was everywhere on the runway and the great thing about this look is that it allows us to be stylish while also being super comfortable and able to chase our little ones. The sporty trend isn’t necessarily literal – I’m not saying to throw on you gym clothes and voila! Its all about the overall look and feel of an item - a sexy slouchy track pant, a baseball tee, a bomber jacket, or even just something with a more athletic fabric, detail or silhouette. The key is to still look feminine but bringing in a relaxed athletic element. Mixing a sporty trend piece with a slouchy silk sweatpants with some great heels and a blazer can take you from the office to a dinner on the town, yet its comfortable and casual enough to pair with a simple tee and sneakers for an activity with your little one. For our kids this look is ideal because its, cute, comfortable and allows them to do all the climbing, running, jumping and various other mischief they get into on a daily basis. The perforated trend has been everywhere – from bags, shoes, clothes and in a range of fabrics from leather to the lightest voile. Think eyelet with a modern twist. This detail gives the right amount of peek a boo while also looking casual enough for day. The perforated trend will keep you looking cool while also keeping you, well, cool as the days get warmer. Whether you’re looking for larger cutouts or the smaller pinhole variety the look is effortlessly stylish and a must have for Spring. The perforated trend is one part sporty, one part rock n’roll and easier than you would imagine to pull off. MATERNITY MONDAY… non maternity clothes for pregnancy – always a favorite!

Having a baby is full of unknowns… From when will you get pregnant, how bad will the morning sickness be, boy or girl, twins, when will you give birth and then all the questions which have no right answers for how to raise a child… Finding great non maternity clothes for pregnancy helps to eliminate the age old question of what to wear while expecting so you can focus on more important things… When my husband and I started trying for baby, I stopped shopping because I didn’t want to buy anything that I wouldn’t be able to get much use out of – and it took us months to conceive… I was in a style rut. Then, once pregnant, there were the months of not showing but being too big, bloated and uncomfortable to fit my normal clothes… Non maternity clothes for pregnancy are brilliant because they are the clothes you want to buy anyway that will allow you to feel like yourself no matter what your body shape – which also comes in handy during those months post baby (for me a year) until you get your body back… The key to finding the best non maternity clothes for pregnancy is to look for fabric with stretch (jersey is brilliant), tops and dresses that are longer and fuller (empire waist, pleats, volume, maxi dresses and skirts), ruched pieces that will accommodate your growing mid-section (don’t be afraid to show off that bump!) and bottoms that are lower and roomier (perhaps even with an elastic or drawstring waist)… Also, remember that as pregnancy goes on, the waist of a dress may end up under your bust and that dress will be better worn as a top, and some tops may need to be layered over a longer maternity tank – which is perfectly okay. Having these pieces in your wardrobe will satisfy your fashion cravings before during and after pregnancy so that you can at least dress like yourself when your body is not your own and again later when your life is no longer your own! MOMMA LOVES… black and white clothes – always chic, easy and on trend

Max and I are in our black and white – classic, playful, chic and always in style!

Black and white clothes (as in both together in on piece) have been enormously popular on the runway, red carpet and in every store imaginable. They work because the look is crisp, elegant, timeless and so easy to wear. Black and white clothes can be worn as easily in the winter as they can be in summer, which is key this time of year when you’re desperate to transition into spring but practical enough to know that whatever you buy still needs to work with your tired winter wardrobe. Black and white will always be classic, never go out of style and, generally, matches everything – making these pieces always wearable, the fact that they are super on trend is the added bonus. Whether you’re more into a lady like chic, casual sporty or prefer a bit of an edge, black and white clothes can tick all your boxes. You can keep your look simple yet neat by wearing a black and white piece with black and/or white or throw in a pop of color – the look is SO easy to wear, no matter what your lifestyle needs and will always looks great! MOMMA IS… mad about plaid!

Once upon a time plaid was reserved for the cooler fall and winter months and relegated to thicker materials such as flannel but, while that will always be true, it has also been reinvented for the spring and summer months in lighter colors and fabrics. That’s right, plaid is hot for spring and the widely popular tartan print can be found in everything from your traditional button front to dresses and blouses in silk and chiffon. Plaid is always sweet on our little ones but it can also be incredibly sophisticated and elegant for us! There is so much versatility with the print that you can wear it easily with for a casual Sunday afternoon stroll with your little one, a boardroom meeting for the working moms, or an evening out on the town. MOMMA LOVES…. fringe benefits, the hot trend for spring!

Max and I walking the line – a bit of fringe takes an ordinary tee and gives it a style boost.

Fringe was everywhere in the Spring/Summer runway collections and now it’s in every store and waiting for us! Everything from clothes, bags, shoes even bathing suits are featuring this tasseled trend. One part boho chic and one part rocker, there’s no doubt that fringe is a HUGE trend for spring. Whether you want to go all in and rock a fully fringed dress or just dip your toe in the trend water and sport a bit of fringe detailing there is something for everyone and its an easy way to update your usual look in a very modern, wearable way. A classic tee with some tassled detailing, a fringed sandal or bag with your favorite summer dress – it injects instant style into any look. Personally, I am OBSESSED with all the amazing new Gucci fringe accessories – heels, flats, boots, bags – they’re all so amazing it hurts..
