MATERNITY MONDAY… maternity style for expectant mommas

So, you’ve got a baby on board and your baby belly is slowly growing and its probably time to start thinking about your maternity style. Maternity style does not have to be scary and it doesn’t have to mean rummaging through your husband’s side of the closet – there are so many great options that you will love so much you’ll wish your could keep wearing them once you get your pre baby body back! Styling your bump is your first opportunity to start dressing your little one so take pride in it and take lots of pictures! Pregnancy is one of the most magical times in your life, you hair looks great, your skin looks great and nobody is going to judge you for stealing fries off their plate. I don’t think it matters whether you have all the money in the world or on limited funds, everyone loves a deal and everyone loves to look great! MOMMA LOVES… neon clothes for us and our little ones!

I’m wearing a highlighter pink Splendid tank and Max is wearing neon yellow Nununu pants – bring on spring time!

I love neon clothes. This may sound crazy from someone who’s daily uniform usually consists of black, white and grey – but I am a HUGE fan of a pop of unexpected brights. Not just some smattering of a bland color – but a committed, eye catching highlighter hue. Neon clothes just capture my attention and they’re so bright they actually shine a bit of light into our lives and can put a smile on my face. Whenever I’m wearing a fluorescent piece I always get compliments – its something different, unexpected and fun. It could just be something as subtle as a hot pink tee paired with a blazer and jeans or something a bit more adventurous (but not too serious) like a chartreuse fit and flare dress… Neon clothes give your skin a warm glow and adds a bit more color into the world – added bonus you and your little ones have it that much easier keeping an eye on each other at the playgrounds! MOMMA KNOWS… nude heels make legs look longer

I’m about to let you in on one of my favorite stylist secrets – nude heels are the ultimate shoe. Beyond the obvious fact that they’re a neutral so they go with everything – they are also the best way to make legs look longer. Think about it – the perfect nude heels give the illusion that legs keep going and going… There’s no cut off, no color block at the end – just legs for miles. As a stylist I have worked with countless models who, let’s face it, don’t need much help in the long legs department, but when working with celebrities who are often petit this little trick always works a charm. The versatility of nude heels is amazing – from a casual jeans and a t-shirt look, to a conservative professional look to a sexy night on the town – these shoes go the distance and always make you look taller and perfectly polished. The heel height is almost irrelevant – choose a pair of nude heels you feel comfortable in and find a tone that most closely matches your skin and voila! Whether you prefer stripy, platform, sling backs, sandals or pumps there are some amazing nude heels that will be sure to give you the legs you’ve always wanted! One of my favorite trends is always art inspired fashion. It simultaneously looks incredible but has a nostalgic quality about it that reminds me of the freedom of being a child. I love that Max is now at an age when we can paint, draw, play with play dough and just do the creative things together that I really enjoyed during my childhood. Its almost as though we get to a certain point in life and forget how to get our hands dirty and be artsy and i’m in a creative profession! Hence, art inspired fashion – which can be anything from a pop print to a specific artistic reference really catches my eye. While some may worry that art inspired fashion is too bold, loud or out of their wheel house it isn’t. Take a watercolor floral print blouse and pair it with your favorite jeans, summer is coming and who doesn’t want a pop print sun dress? Maternity Monday means its time for me to shift focus to all those expectant momma’s on the hunt for maternity clothes that they actually want to wear! This is often no easy task… When you’re completely uncomfortable all the time and your body is changing literally every minute figuring out what to wear can be daunting. That said, there truly are some amazing maternity clothes out there these days that will give you the comfort you desire while also letting you maintain your personal style! MOMMA NEEDS… a blazer for spring

Yesterday was the first day of Spring – its time to roll out the spring time blazers!

I live in blazers, so when the weather starts to turn warmer I love a light jacket to add a bit of polish to my look.

As I have mentioned here before, I am a jacket addict. Everything from leather to tweed and from biker jackets to blazers – I just can’t get enough. And now it’s time to find the perfect blazer for spring. I know many of you are still in the midst of a polar vortex but spring time is a coming and the perfect blazer is just what you need to get you ready for warmer weather while still being able to layer it up for the enough already cold. What makes a blazer for spring different from every other blazer is a fabric weight and perhaps even a move away from classic black. That’s right, white, beige, navy, even a pop of real color might be just what you need to add something special to your look while still remaining classic. The blazer is the perfect piece of clothing – its conservative enough for work, yet comfortable enough for chasing little ones while still being cool and stylish enough to feel dressed up for an evening. You can pair a blazer for spring with everything from jeans to dresses to shorts and everything in between. It can simultaneously dress down an outfit or dress up an outfit – the versatility makes it one of those must have pieces for every wardrobe. MOMMA LOVES… the sporty trend for us and them!

So, a few days ago I did a post on perforated clothes and accessories which is really part of a much larger trend – the sporty trend. Athletic inspired clothing was everywhere on the runway and the great thing about this look is that it allows us to be stylish while also being super comfortable and able to chase our little ones. The sporty trend isn’t necessarily literal – I’m not saying to throw on you gym clothes and voila! Its all about the overall look and feel of an item - a sexy slouchy track pant, a baseball tee, a bomber jacket, or even just something with a more athletic fabric, detail or silhouette. The key is to still look feminine but bringing in a relaxed athletic element. Mixing a sporty trend piece with a slouchy silk sweatpants with some great heels and a blazer can take you from the office to a dinner on the town, yet its comfortable and casual enough to pair with a simple tee and sneakers for an activity with your little one. For our kids this look is ideal because its, cute, comfortable and allows them to do all the climbing, running, jumping and various other mischief they get into on a daily basis. MOMMA MUST HAVE… wedges – the perfect spring/summer shoe!

My beloved Chloe wedges, perfect for every occasion, comfortable and they double as bookends for Max’s vast collection of baby classics!

My Chloe wedges are one of my best footwear investments of all time! They are timeless, comfortable and super versatile. Wedges are great because they give you that bit of extra height, help you stand taller and yet they’re still very comfortable (unless of course you’re walking on cobblestone). I call them the ultimate spring/summer shoe because they are – perfect to wear with jeans, shorts, dresses, skirts and for every occasion from a walk in the park, a meeting in the office to a dinner on the town. Every woman should have a pair of amazing go-to wedge sandals in their wardrobe because they can perfectly complete your look with very little effort – and we all need a few more no brainers in our life!
