MOMMA LOVES… the perfect perforated trend (keeps you cool for spring)

BIML1265

In my Elizabeth and James perforated top…

BIML1310

Getting ready for spring with my baby boy rocking the perforated trend

The perforated trend has been everywhere – from bags, shoes, clothes and in a range of fabrics from leather to the lightest voile.  Think eyelet with a modern twist.  This detail gives the right amount of peek a boo while also looking casual enough for day.  The perforated trend will keep you looking cool while also keeping you, well, cool as the days get warmer.  Whether you’re looking for larger cutouts or the smaller pinhole variety the look is effortlessly stylish and a must have for Spring.  The perforated trend is one part sporty, one part rock n’roll and easier than you would imagine to pull off.  The look is light and comfortable enough for a trip to the park yet sexy and edgy enough for an evening on the town.  So get our your hole punchers (just kidding – let’s leave it to the professionals) because this is a fun, fabulous trend that has me counting down for summer!

MATERNITY MONDAY… non maternity clothes for pregnancy – always a favorite!

Having a baby is full of unknowns…  From when will you get pregnant, how bad will the morning sickness be, boy or girl, twins, when will you give birth and then all the questions which have no right answers for how to raise a child…  Finding great non maternity clothes for pregnancy helps to eliminate the age old question of what to wear while expecting so you can focus on more important things…  When my husband and I started trying for baby, I stopped shopping because I didn’t want to buy anything that I wouldn’t be able to get much use out of – and it took us months to conceive…  I was in a style rut.  Then, once pregnant, there were the months of not showing but being too big, bloated and uncomfortable to fit my normal clothes… Non maternity clothes for pregnancy are brilliant because they are the clothes you want to buy anyway that will allow you to feel like yourself no matter what your body shape – which also comes in handy during those months post baby (for me a year) until you get your body back…  The key to finding the best non maternity clothes for pregnancy is to look for fabric with stretch (jersey is brilliant), tops and dresses that are longer and fuller (empire waist, pleats, volume, maxi dresses and skirts), ruched pieces that will accommodate your growing mid-section (don’t be afraid to show off that bump!) and bottoms that are lower and roomier (perhaps even with an elastic or drawstring waist)…  Also, remember that as pregnancy goes on, the waist of a dress may end up under your bust and that dress will be better worn as a top, and some tops may need to be layered over a longer maternity tank – which is perfectly okay.  Having these pieces in your wardrobe will satisfy your fashion cravings before during and after pregnancy so that you can at least dress like yourself when your body is not your own and again later when your life is no longer your own!  Check out some of my favorite non maternity clothes for pregnancy that can withstand the test of time and your incredible bulging waist line!

SHOP THE LOOK SUNDAY… multiple ways to wear clothes

Shop the look Sunday is a chance for me, as a stylist, to give some advice on the trends I’ve covered during the week and show you multiple ways to wear clothes to get the most out your purchases.  This week I covered the enormously popular fringe trend, the perfect footwear for all seasons – the shoe bootie and the fresh new plaid for spring – and now I can show you how you can take one piece from each of those trends and wear them from desk to date and from the park to brunch.  One complaint I get from women all the time is that they buy something and only ever wear it one way and feel stuck in a rut – I’ll show you multiple ways to wear clothes that are, perhaps, a lot more versatile than you think!  Check out some of the great trends for spring that you can wear now and wear later and the many ways that you can wear them!  Don’t forget, as always, that you can click on any picture to shop the look!

How to wear fringe from desk to date

How to wear fringe from the park to brunch

How to wear fringe from the park to brunch – keep the lines long and clean – pair with some great flats like these d’orsay ones and some personal jewelry – don’t be afraid to play up the boho look with a fringed accessory as long as the fringed pieces compliment rather that drown the look.

MOMMA LOVES… black and white clothes – always chic, easy and on trend

BIML1155

Max and I are in our black and white – classic, playful, chic and always in style!

Black and white clothes (as in both together in on piece) have been enormously popular on the runway, red carpet and in every store imaginable.  They work because the look is crisp, elegant, timeless and so easy to wear.  Black and white clothes can be worn as easily in the winter as they can be in summer, which is key this time of year when you’re desperate to transition into spring but practical enough to know that whatever you buy still needs to work with your tired winter wardrobe.  Black and white will always be classic, never go out of style and, generally, matches everything – making these pieces always wearable, the fact that they are super on trend is the added bonus.  Whether you’re more into a lady like chic, casual sporty or prefer a bit of an edge, black and white clothes can tick all your boxes.  You can keep your look simple yet neat by wearing a black and white piece with black and/or white or throw in a pop of color – the look is SO easy to wear, no matter what your lifestyle needs and will always looks great!  Beyond the fact that they are the perfect additions for every closet they are also perfect for our little ones because black and white clothes are super simple, yet cute and pulled together (which is essential when you don’t have the time or energy in the morning).  Check out some great black and white clothes that can get you and your little ones ready for spring looking polished, cool and stylish.

MOMMA IS… mad about plaid!

BIML1091

Me and Max in our spring time plaid, enjoying the California sunshine (PS – I’m getting a much needed hair cut today…)

Once upon a time plaid was reserved for the cooler fall and winter months and relegated to thicker materials such as flannel but, while that will always be true, it has also been reinvented for the spring and summer months in lighter colors and fabrics.  That’s right, plaid is hot for spring and the widely popular tartan print can be found in everything from your traditional button front to dresses and blouses in silk and chiffon.  Plaid is always sweet on our little ones but it can also be incredibly sophisticated and elegant for us! There is so much versatility with the print that you can wear it easily with for a casual Sunday afternoon stroll with your little one, a boardroom meeting  for the working moms, or an evening out on the town.  Plaid is cool and relaxed yet polished and classic – check out some of my favorite pieces for both us and our little ones that we can wear now and on into the warmer months!

MOMMA LOVES… cutie shoe booties

photo 3_4

My Christian Louboutin shoe booties ended up in Max’s kitchen!

The perfect footwear to see you through all seasons are the shoe booties.  Shoe booties are basically cut at the ankle or even right below the ankle – sort of like a shoe but with more coverage like a boot.  They can be worn just as easily with a skirt, a summer dress or shorts in the summer as they can with pants, tights and jeans in the winter.  Super stylish yet comfortable (depending on your heel hight) they give you a great look while also giving you extra support.  Shoe booties are a must have for every wardrobe because they tick all the boxes – fun, fabulous and (wait for it) functional!  Whether you’re a high heel addict or looking for something to run around town in (while still wanting to look fashionable) shoe booties are truly a must have!  There are so many varying styles of shoe booties from classic casual to dressed up, even open toed – the options are endless (and amazing).   Check out some of the hottest shoe booties in the market that you can wear now and wear later… You’ll get so much wear out of them, you might have to find a good shoe repair guy to get you through next year too!

MOMMA LOVES…. fringe benefits, the hot trend for spring!

BIML0952

Max and I walking the line – a bit of fringe takes an ordinary tee and gives it a style boost.

Fringe was everywhere in the Spring/Summer runway collections and now it’s in every store and waiting for us!  Everything from clothes, bags, shoes even bathing suits are featuring this tasseled trend.  One part boho chic and one part rocker, there’s no doubt that fringe is a HUGE trend for spring.   Whether you want to go all in and rock a fully fringed dress or just dip your toe in the trend water and sport a bit of fringe detailing there is something for everyone and its an easy way to update your usual look in a very modern, wearable way.  A classic tee with some tassled detailing, a fringed sandal or bag with your favorite summer dress – it injects instant style into any look.  Personally, I am OBSESSED with all the amazing new Gucci fringe accessories – heels, flats, boots, bags – they’re all so amazing it hurts..  Another great thing about fringe is it conceal some of your less favorite areas – a little fringed swim coverup or swimsuit can help distract from certain areas while drawing attention to your amazing style!  Check out some of my favorite fringe pieces I’m coveting for spring!
