MATERNITY MONDAY… gliders and rockers – nursery must haves!

Our glider is my favorite part of his nursery – I spent many nights breast feeding from it – and now there’s nothing like curling up with him and reading a good book!

When you’re pregnant you start thinking of all the things you need for when the baby comes – everything from diapers to the all important gliders and rockers. Gliders and rockers are a must have for your nursery – a great chair that you can sit in comfortably to breast feed, relax in or rock your precious angel to sleep. You will spend a lot of your time in this chair and for years to come – it was one of the major purchases in our nursery we did not want to cut corners on. Gliders and rockers need to be comfortable, cute for your babies room and yet still nice enough that once your child grows and want to replace that space with a hot wheels track or my little pony stable it can still find a place somewhere else in your home… When you are doing those middle of the night feeds or soothing your little one when they’re unwell or having a night terror – this chair will be your closest ally. MOMMAS UNDER $100… fall fashion for less

Yup, that’s a fake million dollar bill there max, but you don’t need millions to look fabulous because there’s so much amazing fall fashion for under $100!

The weather outside is cooling down and the layers keep coming and price tags add up so finding fall fashion for less is crucial for looking great, keeping warm and staying on budget! Winter clothes and accessories can get pricey – you need more of and they need to be thicker and cover more of you so naturally they’re going to cost more… Boots are more expensive than sandals and coats have a heftier price tag than, well, not wearing one. Great fall fashion for less is out there and while it is quite difficult to find a quality winter coat for under $100 the layers that go underneath are plentiful and fabulous. MOMMA LOVES…. puffer jackets!

Max and I last year in our puffers – mine from Zara and his from Oshkosh – this year he will be sporting his new Ralph Lauren puffer!

Modern puffers are cinched at the waist or at least tailored to a feminine silhouette to give some shape all while maintaining that cozy, warm appeal.

When I started to do my coats post I got so lost in the land of puffer jackets I knew they would need their own feature. Puffer jackets are soft and cozy like your duvet – they keep you warm and comfy but also protect you from all the elements. Once upon a time they actually looked like you had left your house wearing your bedding but now a days the cuts are feminine and actually really flattering making them a winter outerwear must have. That’s right, puffer jackets actually super chic and stylish now so you can wear them in the rain, snow or just frigid weather and still look great for an evening out, going to the office or just a snowy weekend away. Of course, for our little ones they are incredibly practical and necessary for when winter hits – the soft down keeps them insulated and the techno outer layer keeps them dry! Great sparkly shoes never go out of style – perfect for an evening out or pair them with black tights and a simple dress for a day look with extra kick!

Last week I talked about the clothes but this week is all about those holiday favorites – the sparkly accessories. Metallic, embellished, beaded, shiny bags and shoes that complete your evening look and sometimes they can even work for day (of a bit of added drama). When one thinks about sparkly accessories the mind goes to jewelry but these days accessory designers have turned your bags and shoes into a different kind of jewelry. MOMMA NEEDS… winter coats (it’s officially time)

This Marc by Marc Jacobs coat has served me well – I may not need it as much in Southern California – but it withstands the test of time and tells the tale of an outfit while being perfectly practical at the same time!

That’s right, the bathing suits have been packed away and it’s time to start thinking about winter coats. Where I am in Southern California there may not be any need for the warmest coats (we think 60 degrees is freezing) but after years of living in New York and London I have a true appreciating for great outerwear. Winter coats are going to be worn every day for months on end so its important to select a style you love because it’s going to be the first thing people see, its going to be your shelter from the cold and it’s got to withstand time and the harsh winter element. These are the pieces you will get the most use out of this season, they have to be able to be layered and go with everything – not that you have to stick with a neutral (a pop of color or a playful print can be a great option. MATERNITY MONDAY… how to style your bump

Figuring out how to style your bump may seem like one of the biggest mysteries of pregnancy but the key is not to over complicate it. There’s not need to abandon your personal taste just because you’re dressing for two and don’t be afraid to show of your growing belly. This is a glorious time of your life so you may as well dress (well) for it. Learning how to style your bump is all about embracing pregnancy and celebrating it – not trying to hide it. You can stick with a neutral palette, clean lines and figure hugging silhouettes or get a bit more wild with color and prints! MOMMA WANTS… delicate personal jewelry

Like most kids Max loves to play with my makeup, jewelry shoes – but when his Auntie TTJ comes to town he is ALL about her personal jewelry – her Kimberly McDonald and best friend necklaces are always a favorite!

Tis the season to start thinking about what you want for christmas and personal jewelry is always a winner! Personal jewelry are those sentimental delicate pieces that subtly define you – they’re those necklaces, rings, bracelets that you wear everyday. They become a second skin, and while you don’t register that you’re wearing them you would feel naked without them. Personal jewelry is exactly that, personal, sentimental – not necessarily expensive but chosen with great thought. Whether it’s a simple band on your pinky finger, the little heart earrings you never take out, a necklace with a simple charm – these are the things you bookmark and send to your husband, they are the things you might one day pass on to your children. MOMMA NEEDS… winter white now!

Winter white is all about a crisp fresh look – a piece with texture helps give you a more wintery feel.

The great thing about wearing white in the winter – it transitions perfectly when spring hits! And as we already know, white is HOT for next season too!

While white may not seem like the logical choice for our little ones it sure does look angelic on them – just invest in some oxi-clean!

So, the weather (even here in Southern California) is starting to get cold and it’s time to break out your winter white clothes! I know it seems crazy and against the “rules” (white after labor day – poo poo) but its super chic and it’s not just for summer anymore!! You can where the frost color all year round but we just call it winter white come fall… Nothing looks as crisp and fresh as white and for those of us who don’t lead a perfect stain free life (hello, kids equal messy) it’s all about stocking up on some oxi-clean! Winter white is traditionally an off white to cream version of the traditionally summer hue – but I think that in this day and age even a crisp icy white can look appropriate (and incredibly chic) for the cold months! You can wear white on white, keep it tonal with shades of light, pair it with color for a pop, keep it modern and slick with black or soft and pretty with one of the many shades of gray flooding the market – you simply can’t go wrong! Women love to have choices so when your pregnant having maternity options gives you the ability to dress in comfort, style and not have to be tied to the same Mrs. Roper muumuu for 9 months. The maternity fashion industry is vast and it understands that having a child doesn’t mean giving up your style aesthetic – so pregnancy fashion really is the same trends you love with a bit more room in the middle! Great maternity options include everything from skinny jeans to cocktail dresses and everything in between because your life doesn’t stop just because you’re creating a new life!
