MOMMA LOVES… whimsical shoes

This is from a fairytale accessories photo shoot I style years ago with photographer Karin Catt.. There’s nothing like whimsical shoes to inspire, delight and captivate the little girl in all of us.

I love doing this post, and I’ve done a few in the past, but whimsical shoes are some of my favorite things. The whole idea of fashion as art has always resonated with me and I am constantly amazed by the innovative thinking behind some of the magnificent footwear out there. Incredible designers from Sophia Webster to Charlotte Olympia are breaking the accessories mold and putting out the most incredible whimsical shoes you could ever dream up. Yes, they can be insanely expensive and achingly impractical but they’re water cooler pieces – they’re talking points, outfit changers and sometimes, just something to fanatsize about. All of that said, these whimsical shoes are too fabulous to not get their moment in the sun. Too fantastical to not know about. MOMMA LOVES… love motifs (just in time for V-day)

Spread joy with the love motif!

So yesterday I talked about my birthday and jewelry, well, with Valentines Day moment away I wanted to focus on love motifs in fashion that withstand trends and time. Everything from the iconic Cartier love bracelet to the word love and all the hearts that emphatically infiltrate our wardrobes (as well as our little ones). Reminiscent for the free love 60′s moment the love motifs reign supreme, and why not – perhaps all we need is more love in this world. Yes, camo and skull prints will alway be popular prints,but make no mistake, love is the yin to their yang and it’s nice to put as much as possible into the world – so I happily wear it on my sleeve! MOMMA WANTS… some beautiful personal jewelry

Me and my favorite arm candy – my little guy and the bracelets I never take off. Sleeping, showering or playing in the mud with you know who – these personal jewels are my second skin.

So, today is my Birthday, I am officially 28 years old (at least that’s what I would like for my birthday) and what better way to celebrate than with some beautiful new personal jewelry. These pieces aren’t chunky, and don’t make a loud statement – they’re the pieces we wear every day. Personal jewelry are the rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces that mean something to us – either because they have sentimental value or we just like them. MOMMA LOVES… baby’s got flats (shoes, that is)

My favorite new pair of Chloe flats… on flatbeds… I just couldn’t resist.

It’s no secret that I’m a mom and a stylist so a great pair of flats aren’t just convenient – they’re a necessity. I have been a long time high heel girl, so taking the dive into the world of my god given height was frightening at first. But after falling down a step (just one) while pregnant I resolved to put my heels on the shelf for a bit and invest in some flats I could love. It turned out that there is a whole world of incredible heel-less shoes out there, my shoe addiction didn’t have to be squelched for my new more practical style – it just had to look with fresh eyes. Everything from rounded ballet flats to pointed and spikey, metallics, prints, neon colors – there was no end to the fabulous flats available. Yes, there is enough room in the shoe word for fabulous heels AND their often overlooked cousins. Today, I am focusing on the unsung heroes of footwear, amazing flats that do it all in comfort and style.

MOMMA LOVES… round toe shoes

These round toe Chanel ankle straps shoes (with the pearl heel cap) are an oldie but a goodie – I absolutely love how they look on my feet and they simply never go out of style!

I’m tall, so my feet are big, not huge a good 8.5 so I’ve always been a fan of great round toe shoes – they’re sophisticated and sexy but also make my feet look cute and petit. It’s the classic feel of the tried and true mary jane you’ve loved since you were a little girl but a bit more grown up. Round toe shoes is elegant and not clumsy, trendless yet fashionable – and basically alway wearable. Don’t get it twisted, I love a great point heel as well, but there’s something more subtle and gentle about these heels. MOMMA LOVES… an east west bag (forever)

I’m a long time fan of my Balenciaga bags – yes, they’re awesome, but they’re also the ideal east west bag – I never have to hunt around to find my keys or phone – the proportions are absolute perfection!

I’m a girl that loves style and convenience – so I’m ALL about an east west bag. For those of you who might be unfamiliar it’s simply a bag that’s more of a horizontal style than a vertical (or north south) style. MOMMA LOVES…. mules – the hot new shoe

Sophia Webster mules are absolutely captivating. These angel wing versions were on the top of my Christmas list…

I was shocked as anyone when I realized quite quickly that for us shoe-aholics are future includes some fabulous mules and clogs… That’s right – those backless shoes that always come creeping back are once again in vogue. Mules have dominated the catwalk recently and they are quickly and beautifully making their way into our favorite stores and soon enough into our closets. They can be closed toed or open, high or low but they are all about putting on a fabulous front! Mules are super easy to slip in and out of and can transition easily from day to night. Some of the latest incarnations are part clog part mule but regardless of the variations of styling – this shoe is back and an enormous trend.
