MOMMA LOVES… power colors (red and bright pink) for V-DAY!

Happy Valentines Day everyone! In honor of a day that celebrates love – I wanted to do a post on those lovely power colors – red and bright pink! Red has been THE power color forever (I mean, you only have to look at the RED carpet trends recently to know that) but pink is one of the hot new power colors that will get you noticed and make a statement! Yes it can be feminine and girly – but I’m talking about the bright, electric, neon shades of pink that exude confidence and strength. Whether in the work place, at home or out on the town wearing these bold hues will always get attention and appreciation. The warmth in red and bright pinks will illuminate skin tone and give you that glow usually reserved for pregnancy and oxygen facials! I always say, bright color will get you noticed in a sea of black, and that is particularly beneficially when you have a little on you’re always trying to keep an eye on (and so they always know how to find you!). So, celebrate valentines day and every day by investing in some great power colors for both you and your little one – and don’t be afraid to wear your heart on your sleeve this valentines day – being strong also means letting your loved ones know how much you care!

MOMMA NEEDS… non skinny jeans for women and children

So, skinny jeans have been in for several years now… They are not showing any sign of going anywhere any time soon. I like skinny jeans, I think they’re great and I think they are flattering on most body types – but I also think its time to change it up and look for some non skinny jeans. A lot of women may not feel comfortable in the skin tight jeans that have dominated the market – so I wanted to do a post on all the amazing non skinny jeans option out there to keep you comfortable and looking your best! The denim market is so enormous and such a huge part of every wardrobe so its important that we all find our perfect pair. Non skinny jeans could mean a flared leg, a wide leg or even just a more subtle boot cut – all incredibly wearable and chic. I actually get so many compliments when I wear my flares because they actually are so flattering and people aren’t used to see in the silhouette! Non skinny jeans are also great for our little ones because, lets face it, getting them dressed can be a hard enough challenge without having to find a way to shimmy up a pair of skinnies! MOMMA LOVES… polka dots

Polka dots are hardly a trend and more of a staple. Feminine, sweet and yet effortlessly cool there is something about polka dots that keeps us coming back for more. They’re classic and safe but there’s noting twee about these spots. Now a days they’re more graphic, bold, varied and interesting. Polka dots are great graphic prints which feel safe and familiar yet they can still be strong and modern. Whether you like pretty and preppy or prefer a bit of an edge there are polka dots for every style that can take you from the office to the park to a night out on the town. This print is fun and easy to wear – perfect on our little ladies because they have that feminine youthful appeal but they can still be grown up and sophisticated for us momma’s as well! For the little boys, since they’re is not as much for them in terms of polka dots, I wanted to expand the print to include all micro prints… As the mom of a little guy, I know sometimes it feels as though boys clothing aren’t as fun… Perhaps, its because boys clothes aren’t scaled down versions of our own – but believe me, there are so many AMAZING options for our baby boys that I want to share with you. Basically, I’m taking some of the top trends that I have featured this week and giving you two outfits with the same item which will take you from desk to date and then from the park to brunch. MOMMA LOVES… the peasant blouse

Max and I in our peasant blouses… Max’s actually came from his Papou’s last trip to Greece!

The peasant blouse is both simple yet chic and beautiful. There’s a nostalgia about it – a peasant blouse always take me back to my childhood when my mom would dress me in smocked dresses (which she would make herself) and little embroidered blouses which seemed to highlight my greek heritage… There is a bohemian simplicity to the look which allows it to be referential yet still very modern. The peasant blouse will always be popular among women and children because its comfortable, sweet and feminine without being overly fussy. Its timeless and while it may have been what my Greek ancestors wore on a little island over a hundred years ago, it is also what I wear today. Whether I’m running errands or going out for dinner – its universal appeal has never wavered. You really can’t tell whether a peasant blouse was bought from Barneys or on the side of a road in Spain. In fact, you will find that a lot of designers who feature a peasant blouse in their collections were inspired from their travels. Its funny to think back to the peasant blouses of my childhood and see that those tops are still as ever present in the kids market today. I love the boho baby look an the peasant blouse is the easiest way to accomplish the look. Of course, for little boys, it may be more about the fabric, the fit or overall feel – clearly there is not a huge market for boys blouses, but check out some of my favorite peasant blouses for us and our mini-me’s!

MOMMA LOVES… leather jackets (that aren’t black)

Flashback to when I was about 6 months pregnant – me and some girlfriends getting made over by a 4 year old and rocking our leather jackets (none of them black)

Great leather jackets never go out of fashion. They’re the perfect item to have in every wardrobe to give you that extra warmth as well as that extra bit of style. I’m sure most of us have acquired at least one leather jacket – but I’m not talking about the classic one in black…. I’m talking about show stopping leather jackets that AREN’T black. Just in time for spring (and the eventual end to the polar vortex) leather jackets are everywhere and they are in the most amazing colors – from safer browns and treys to white, light pink and various other dusty colors. They’re soft, supple and gorgeous! The brilliant thing about a great leather jacket that’s classic and beautiful is that, while it might be one of the most expensive things in your wardrobe, it will also be the item you wear the most and for the longest. Prints prints prints are everywhere! Graphic prints, which can be anything from an exact photo print to an abstract illustration, is super popular right now! The technology designers have now make these graphic prints incredibly real, beautiful and unique. Whether the print is hyper realistic or a more vague interpretation its almost a way of wearing art. Ricardo Tisci for Givenchy has been sending these graphic prints down the runway for several years now and those designs instantly become the must haves for every fashionista and Mary Katrantzou became and instant designer when she first debuted enormous jewelry prints in her debut collection. Whether you call it, trompe l’oeil, photo print, graphic prints – one thing is for sure – these printed pieces are attention grabbing, special and on every one’s must have list. Of course, our children have been wearing graphic prints all along begging the question of whether the appeal of a poppy print comes from our childhood and who’s influencing who? Graphic prints are fierce, fabulous and fun – they can be referential, exquisite, ironic or just humorous. Regardless, they are statement pieces and something special that everyone should have in their closet. MOMMA NEEDS… the perfect tee for women and kids

Max and I are in our uniforms – relaxed and comfortable in our favorite tees.

The absolute must have item in every wardrobe is the perfect tee. Nothing serves our purposes more than the t-shirt that looks great, fits great and can effortlessly give us both the comfort and style we want. But, what is the perfect tee? It is 100% about the fit and then the rest is up to you – the boyfriend tee shrunken down and tailored, softly worn, low cut and sexy or slouchy and cool – its the item we wear the most and when you find the perfect tee you buy it in bulk. Now a days the t-shirt market is enormous – there is literally a cut, color and variation for every possible need/want. The truth is, much like the perfect jeans, having a great t-shirt to throw on which allows you to feel and look great without having to over think your look is priceless (but not pricey). Nothing is more classic than jeans and a t-shirt, so its just a matter of finding the perfect one (or ones) that suit your style. Of course, for our little ones, t-shirts are certainly the easiest and most comfortable things for them to wear. The key is the softness of the fabric for your babies delicate skin. A soft worn cotton is so easy to put them in (which is essential for babies and kids that are constantly moving around and not always cooperating) and always comfortable whether they’re running around in the garden or taking a nap. I have found the Splendid and Nununu lines to be the best – their cotton is brushed and softer than a babies bottom – certainly more expensive – so always good to keep an eye out when these lines go on sale!
