MOMMA LOVES… summer accessories (to pop your look)

We love our summer accessories – not only are they cute!

Sometimes they can actually be functional too!

With the warmer weather we lose our layers – jackets, coats, sweaters all go into storage and outfits get simpler, so its up to summer accessories to give your look a bit of a pop. I’m not talking about bags and shoes – I do plenty of those posts, I’m talking about the less talked about scarves, hats, sunglasses and the like, which can truly make an outfit. A simple pair of shorts and t-shirt can go from bland to super stylish with the right hat and jewels. Summer accessories are light and actually very functional (hats and sunglasses help provide protection from the sun) but they are also incredibly fun and fabulous. Stylists have long known it’s in these accessories that an outfit can go from ordinary to extraordinary so, although they are often overlooked, they can be the cornerstone of a great look. MOMMA NEEDS… flat sandals for the warm weather ahead!

The hot weather means its time for a cool off and time for sandals! Max in his Old Navy flip flops and me in my K. Jacques t-straps will be poolside if you need us!

The weather is warm and its time to pack all those socks in a drawer and bring out the flat sandals for summer. A great friend of mine back in New York would always look at me teetering around the city in sky high heels on location scouts and tell me, “I think it’s time you freed your feet.” I bought a pair of K Jacques St. Tropez flat sandals and never looked back! With the great warm weather ahead we want to be running around outside as much as possible so its time to invest in the appropriate footwear. Great flat sandals are a essential for the months ahead – they lwill give you the freedom to enjoy the great outdoors comfortably and stylishly. I put some sandals on Max for the first time the other day so that he could enjoy playing at his water table and running in the grass while still protecting those precious feet, they’re going to take some getting used to but boy are they cute! MOMMA LOVES… relaxed rocker tees

Guns N Roses and Mick Jagger baby! It’s only rock and roll but we like it!

As a mom and a stylist jeans are part of my uniform as they are equal parts cool and comfortable and one of my favorite things to put with them are rocker tees. Something with a soft vintage feel that gives an effortless yet stylish look. I’m not saying some oversized concert tee – these rocker tees are fitted yet slouchy, worn but still fresh. Dolce & Gabbana often include a nod to the great Hollywood and rock n’roll legends on their t-shirts (James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Mick Jagger) and that fashion but not fashion look is often the perfect pairing with your favorite pair of jeans. I have featured these rocker tees for our little ones in the past – and it’s still one of my favorite looks. My little Max in a Ramones, Beatles or Sex Pistols tee feels sweet, ironic and always fun. The fact that he has no idea who these bands are yet will soon enough… These rocker tees don’t have to be literal – its not necessarily even about the band – they could feature a designer, actor or just a general vibe that these t-shirts give off. Embellished accessories are those bags and shoes that aren’t just form and aren’t just function they are next level. They are closer to art than they are to simple accessories. They are adorned, decorated and whimsical. I am always a sucker for embellished accessories because I know I will love them forever. They’re not classic, but they don’t need to be. They are special enough to withstand the test of time. My most recent purchase are the Sophia Webster butterfly shoes – I know I’lll only wear them a handful of times this year but I also know I’ll wear them for the next 10 + years because they are just so unique. MOMMA KNOWS… April showers means rain coats and boots

eh, who am I kidding we live in LA!

Its been a frigid winter for much of the country – but Spring is upon us and as the weather warms up snow will be rain (at least for a little while) and its time for rain coats and boots! I’m talking waterproof trench coats and wells to keep us and our little ones dry but not being afraid to dance in the rain. There is nothing my little ones loves more than jumping in puddles… which is sad considering we live in LA and it’s rained twice in the last year… But he seeks out a little divot in the driveway where water collects from the sprinkler and he goes for it every day. So, for all those ladies that are getting ready for April showers (on a bright note – they do bring May flowers!) Fringe was everywhere in the Spring/Summer runway collections and now it’s in every store and waiting for us! Everything from clothes, bags, shoes even bathing suits are featuring this tasseled trend. One part boho chic and one part rocker, there’s no doubt that fringe is a HUGE trend for spring. Whether you want to go all in and rock a fully fringed dress or just dip your toe in the trend water and sport a bit of fringe detailing there is something for everyone and its an easy way to update your usual look in a very modern, wearable way. A classic tee with some tassled detailing, a fringed sandal or bag with your favorite summer dress – it injects instant style into any look. Last week I did my post on color block clothes and today I’m featuring some amazing color block accessories for both us and our little ones. I am all about accessories – bags, shoes, jewels – these are the things that transform a look from ordinary to extraordinary and transition an outfit from day to night. Color block accessories are particularly brilliant because they open up a world of options in terms of your color choices and can pop a very simple outfit and take it to another level. Investing in some great accessories allows you to play with a trend in a more safe, conservative way but will also get a lot more wear. We change outfits every day but often times will carry the same bag every day for a year + and not think twice. I always say that great bags and shoes make the outfit and color block accessories are the easiest way to be elegant yet bold. Happy Valentines Day everyone! In honor of a day that celebrates love – I wanted to do a post on those lovely power colors – red and bright pink! Red has been THE power color forever (I mean, you only have to look at the RED carpet trends recently to know that) but pink is one of the hot new power colors that will get you noticed and make a statement! Yes it can be feminine and girly – but I’m talking about the bright, electric, neon shades of pink that exude confidence and strength. Whether in the work place, at home or out on the town wearing these bold hues will always get attention and appreciation.
