MOMMA LOVES… high tops and highchairs!

Max’s high-tops and my Isabel Marant wedge sneakers – its all about high tops and highchairs baby!

High tops are so popular, it doesn’t matter if you’re 2 years old or 50 years old, if you’re a soccer mom or a fashionista mom, these sneakers are hot! They’re comfortable and yes, incredibly stylish! Whether you prefer a wedged high top sneaker (to give you a bit of extra height) or something more streamline and flat, there are so many incredible options that will have you chasing your little one with ease and finesse! They look great paired with skinny jeans or even a maxi dress – celebs have been rocking this look (with the help of designer Isabel Marant’s perfect wedge hi tops) for years. I am no athlete and actually have not owned sneakers for years until this trend hit the big time – now I have my Zara wedge sneakers and I recently invested in the Isabel Marant’s… This is a trend I hope is here to stay – I can keep up with my little one and then, without missing a beat, head out on stylist pulls or brunch with my girlfriends – done and done. They’re one part ironic and one part heaven sent! Great for out busy lifestyle and also perfect for our little one’s play schedule. MOMMA LOVES… polka dots

Just taking the pups for a walk in our polka dots and micro prints (sadly max’s are concealed by the gorgeous pups!)

Polka dots are hardly a trend and more of a staple. Feminine, sweet and yet effortlessly cool there is something about polka dots that keeps us coming back for more. They’re classic and safe but there’s noting twee about these spots. Now a days they’re more graphic, bold, varied and interesting. Polka dots are great graphic prints which feel safe and familiar yet they can still be strong and modern. Whether you like pretty and preppy or prefer a bit of an edge there are polka dots for every style that can take you from the office to the park to a night out on the town. This print is fun and easy to wear – perfect on our little ladies because they have that feminine youthful appeal but they can still be grown up and sophisticated for us momma’s as well! For the little boys, since they’re is not as much for them in terms of polka dots, I wanted to expand the print to include all micro prints… As the mom of a little guy, I know sometimes it feels as though boys clothing aren’t as fun… Perhaps, its because boys clothes aren’t scaled down versions of our own – but believe me, there are so many AMAZING options for our baby boys that I want to share with you. MOMMA LOVES… nautical accessories for women and children

Max’s Toms and My Louboutins are getting ready for a nod to nautical this summer!

One of the most classic and ever present trends is the nautical look – its clean, polished, elegant and and overall effortless classic. I recently did a post on stripes and thought I needed to follow it up with a nod to nautical accessories. There are just so many beautiful options out there that can add that extra bit of something special to your look. Nautical accessories don’t have to be all anchors and rope – the sailor vibe can be accomplished with something striped or a simple as anything red, white and/or blue color. The look feels fresh, yet safe and easy to wear. Nautical accessories will always be in vogue because by their very simplicity are definitively chic. MOMMA LOVES… graphic prints for women and kids

Prints prints prints are everywhere! Graphic prints, which can be anything from an exact photo print to an abstract illustration, is super popular right now! The technology designers have now make these graphic prints incredibly real, beautiful and unique. Whether the print is hyper realistic or a more vague interpretation its almost a way of wearing art. Ricardo Tisci for Givenchy has been sending these graphic prints down the runway for several years now and those designs instantly become the must haves for every fashionista and Mary Katrantzou became and instant designer when she first debuted enormous jewelry prints in her debut collection. Whether you call it, trompe l’oeil, photo print, graphic prints – one thing is for sure – these printed pieces are attention grabbing, special and on every one’s must have list. Of course, our children have been wearing graphic prints all along begging the question of whether the appeal of a poppy print comes from our childhood and who’s influencing who? Graphic prints are fierce, fabulous and fun – they can be referential, exquisite, ironic or just humorous. Regardless, they are statement pieces and something special that everyone should have in their closet. MOMMA KNOWS… accessories make the outfit

There’s no question, as a stylist, accessories make the outfit. The bits and pieces we choose to put with a look can dress it up, down and turn it from boring to fabulous. Now, I have a love affair with my bags and shoes, but that’s not what I’m talking about in this post…. I’m talking about all the other (sometimes forgotten) accessories - belts, hats, scarves, statement jewelry – that can transform a little black dress or simple jeans and t-shirt. I have never been much of a belt person but I love my scarves – my classic look is jeans or leggings with a simple top, blazer and scarf – its all about the details. An incredible piece of statement jewelry can be all you need to turn a simple walk in the park outfit to a night not the town outfit. Investing in classic pieces and then letting the accessories make the outfit has been a long time style secret of fashionistas everywhere. My little boy hasn’t quite gotten into accessorizing, but I can’t resist how adorable he looks in his amber teething necklace! MOMMA NEEDS… the perfect tee for women and kids

Max and I are in our uniforms – relaxed and comfortable in our favorite tees.

The absolute must have item in every wardrobe is the perfect tee. Nothing serves our purposes more than the t-shirt that looks great, fits great and can effortlessly give us both the comfort and style we want. But, what is the perfect tee? It is 100% about the fit and then the rest is up to you – the boyfriend tee shrunken down and tailored, softly worn, low cut and sexy or slouchy and cool – its the item we wear the most and when you find the perfect tee you buy it in bulk. Now a days the t-shirt market is enormous – there is literally a cut, color and variation for every possible need/want. The truth is, much like the perfect jeans, having a great t-shirt to throw on which allows you to feel and look great without having to over think your look is priceless (but not pricey). Nothing is more classic than jeans and a t-shirt, so its just a matter of finding the perfect one (or ones) that suit your style. Of course, for our little ones, t-shirts are certainly the easiest and most comfortable things for them to wear. The key is the softness of the fabric for your babies delicate skin. A soft worn cotton is so easy to put them in (which is essential for babies and kids that are constantly moving around and not always cooperating) and always comfortable whether they’re running around in the garden or taking a nap. I have found the Splendid and Nununu lines to be the best – their cotton is brushed and softer than a babies bottom – certainly more expensive – so always good to keep an eye out when these lines go on sale! MOMMA LOVES… heart prints – lets get ready for Valentines Day!

Valentines Day is once again upon us – it seems like the Christmas dust has only begun to settle and yet when I look around there are heart prints everywhere. A holiday based on expressing your love for one another can’t be the worst thing and, to be fair, I really love heart prints. I know I did a post a few months back on the love motif but I guess we could always use more love! Children’s clothes will always feature plenty of love messages and heart prints because our children are the ultimate symbol of love but make no mistake there are lots of options for us as well! Everything from jewelry to bags, shoes, tops and dresses feature the widely popular symbol of love and its will always be an iconic, wearable and feminine print. I know this week I have been heavily focused on prints – but it just seems that women are looking for a way to wear their heart on their sleeves (ha ha ha – I couldn’t help myself). MOMMA LOVES… Orange crush – great orange options for us and them

As you may have noticed, I like orange. I always like a pop of color – but orange is so special because its a statement but it doesn’t have the girly-ness of pink or the look at me of red – its a unisex color with a bit of an edge. Its vibrant and modern and it just makes me smile. Its just great contrasting color to pair with shades of white, denim, or even color blocked with colors like pink and purple. I’m not talking about an orange overhaul – it might be a pop of orange print, and orange bag or just an orange lipstick… It brings light to the face because it has such warm undertones and I absolutely love dressing Max in orange. The beauty of orange is its also unisex – so when we were decorating his nursery and even when I’m shopping for his clothes I know orange will go a lot further (if we happened to ever have a girl). MOMMA LOVES… backpacks are back

That’s right, I said it – backpacks are back! Everyone from Chanel to Forever21 is doing their version of the backpack – so it seems that childhood is once again a source of inspiration for designers. I must confess I was a bit repelled by the trend at first – remembering it from the 80′s and the mid 90′s when, as a teenager, we all rocked the baby backpacks (some of us even adding “cool” patches and calling it our BBP). But this is not that… Nor is it the completely functional Jansport or North Face bags we used daily to carry our books… These backpacks are incredibly chic and actually amazingly practical! Think about it – carry all your stuff (and everyone else’s stuff – I’m talking to you my darling husband and baby boy) and still be hands free! Beyond, they are actually very beautiful – whether you’re preppy or bohemian – there are some stunning variations! Yes, it may take some getting used to in terms of style but there are so many incredible versions available that you can’t help but love them and once you start carrying on and are relieved of all that shoulder pain you’ll never look back! That said – how you choose to carry it is, once again, a personal style choice – one strap on one strap off or old school both straps on… PS – backpacks are something our kids actually need – why not get them something they’ll LOVE to carry… It might just get them used to carrying their own stuff for a change… The hot new bag is absolutely the backpack – so now you and your little one can truly enjoy the same trend and you’ll each wonder who’s copying who now…

MOMMA LOVES… shades of white accessories for us and them

Last week I did a post on shades of white clothing and I was SO amazed by what I saw I had to do a follow up post on all the amazing light colored accessories out there. There crisp and fresh and brand new! They are a must have for spring and give every look an elegant polish. It doesn’t matter what you put these white accessories with – color, black, more white – they will alway be the perfect final touch. The abundance of white that’s now coming into stock indicates a huge trend approaching. Most of the country has seen a lot of the white stuff due to the polar vortex and with spring approaching, get ready to see a lot more of it in our wardrobes! White accessories are always a risk so make sure to scotch guard and leather protect to help keep them looking fresh. Of course, I couldn’t forget our little ones – so there are plenty of white accessories to keep them looking their best… Until they find that mud puddle!
