MOMMA LOVES… some graphic prints

Great graphic prints are transformative – eye catching, beautiful and always a favorite!

I am always a huge fan of graphic prints – bold and strong they make a great statement without saying a word. A fabulous patterned piece puts a fun twist on an otherwise basic look. Everything from pop prints to florals and everything in between can be considered a graphic prints – it’s all about injecting a bit of eye candy to your wardrobe. Prints have long been popular and can be worn quite simply on their own or clashed, there seems to be an anything goes attitude to these brilliant statement pieces. MOMMA NEEDS… snow boots (not for LA)

There I am in the frigid London snow rocking my Yak boots – sure I look like a polar bear to anyone in the bathroom stall next to me but they keep me warm and dry and that’s what great snow boots are all about!

Following on my post from last week, I can’t be venturing out to colder pastures without some great snow boots for me and my little guy. Listen, I have plenty of boots but anyone that has encountered snow before knows that your cute little leather booties aren’t going to cut the mustard. Snow boots are the real deal – they’ll keep you insulated so that your toots are warm and toasty and they’re water proof so that you don’t have to worry about the slush… Also very important, they have traction, this comes in very handy on those frozen, icy sidewalks - we’ve all done the slip and slide show in inappropriate footwear – I’m not doing that again! Yes, they are practical, but don’t get it twisted, there is also plenty of room for fabulous! You’re not going to ski in these snow boots – these are all about the apres ski moments (aka drinking hot toddies by the fire in cute outfits) which is much more up my street… Or just plodding to work without any unfortunate tumbles… Check out some of my favorite cool yet practical snow boots to get you through the harshest winter storms or just a fun ski trip!

MOMMA NEEDS… snow coats for moms and kids!

This is a flashback to a snowy London evening – it’s all about layers and a great coat that can keep you warm, dry and still kind of fabulous!

I conquered the british snow, now Max and I intend on taking on some California snow (and I’m not talking about the hollywood snow machine variety).

We live in LA – it hardly drops below 50 in the winter but we’ve started talking about taking max to see the snow and so it might be time for snow coats. With Big Bear and Mammoth just a (not too terrible) drive away we are thinking it might be nice for our little guy to see non hollywood manufactured snow and maybe even get him skiing down some bunny slopes but he hasn’t got any clothes appropriate for the severely cold weather that so much of the country is already encountering. This got me thinking, it might be time to start looking for snow coats for the colder climate. My own gear from my years in New York and even London is a bit worn and torn by the polar vortexes of yore so I’m officially on the hunt for new blizzard appropriate fashion. MOMMA WANTS… great sleepwear for christmas morning!

2 very important questions – what are all those presents under the tree?? And what pajamas will Max be wearing under that robe come christmas morning???

Every year come Christmas morning I rush to get the party started but, inevitably, I always seem to forget the importance of great sleepwear! Who’s got time to shower, get changed and brush teeth when there is a tree full of presents to unwrap (especially when you have kids who are standing over you and prodding you to wake up from sunrise). For years I have pleaded with my father and my husband not to take pictures of my during present opening because I am in horrible pajamas – when what I need to do is slap on some under eye concealer put my hair in a bun and invest in some presentable sleepwear! Our kids have adorable pj’s but I’m in my husband’s discarded boxers and tees and the slippers from christmases past. Yes ladies, if you haven’t done so already – it’s time for some great, photogenic sleepwear, not just because Christmas morning is awesome and should be captured on digital, but because we should have them. We spend almost half our lives in our pajamas, we really should give them more thought than we do…. So, this year, I’m going to get some great sleepwear that I can be proud to be seen in come Christmas morning, and also sleep comfortably in that evening and into the New Year!

MOMMA NEEDS… new sneakers for my comfy look

Happy Hanukkah!! Perhaps celebrate the Christmukkah season with some fabulous new sneakers.

I’m not a typical sneaker’s girl so you know I went for the Missoni Converse!

These mismatched Akid hi-tops are adorable on Max and are an amazing git from his stylist god mom – we are obsessed!

Anyone of my friends and family will tell you that I am not a sneakers kinds of girl. I’m not athletic and in general, they have never been something I’ve gravitated towards. The only sneakers I’ve had in years are the wedge kind, and let’s face it – they’re not really sneakers… All of that said, I’ve discovered 2 things recently: sometimes the perfect sneakers are exactly what is needed to complete a great look and there are actually some super cool options out there that are NOT simply about function. MOMMA LOVES… kids holiday clothes (cuteness overload)

Last Chrismas, I couldn’t get enough of his little English gentleman look for the holidays…

I absolutely LOVE kids holiday clothes – there is something so insanely cute about our little ones all dressed up. Whether your little ones demand comfort (my little Max cannot STAND to be overly styled or fussy) or loves all the frills and finery – nothing says christmas memories more than little ones in holiday dress. MOMMA PLEASE… best gifts for kids (it’s what the holidays are all about)

Christmas is for the children!! And indeed, Max has a lot to look forward to come christmas morning – and the joy that gives me is what christmas is all about!

Christmas is about togetherness, celebration, lights, trees, santa and gifts for kids! Your little ones, your nieces, nephews, friend’s children and let’s not forget those kids who might otherwise not get presents this year – christmas is truly about the children. Every year their is a hot new Elmo, game system or elsa doll and this year is no different. Figuring out the best gifts for kids isn’t actually that hard because they’ll be the first ones to tell you (and santa and anyone else who asks). I am a sucker for watching my boy tear open a present and get stuck into something new and exciting. He’s just now at an age where he’s appreciating toys and the joy that they bring. The key is a little bit at a time. Too much to quick is overwhelming and can devalue the great gifts that you and everyone else has showered your little ones with… Try to spread gifts over a couple of days and let him properly appreciate them! MOMMA LOVES… slim knits for layering

The perfect slim knits can layer neatly under a tailored blazer to easy transition you for various temperatures.

simple, yet chic and super easy to wear throughout the day and into evening…

Of course, living in LA this is about as layered as I get these days, but when I lived in London and New York my favorite heavy coat would easily fit over all of these layers!

Yes, I love a chunky cardigan, and being wrapped in an oversized pullover but its those slim knits that not only transition me to cooler weather but layer perfectly under everything from a skim blazer to my puffer jacket and winter coats… These are those fine knit knits that hug the body, look chic (when you take off your outer layer), give you that extra layer of warmth but also allow you to not overheat when you’re inside. They’re simple, elegant, easy to throw on over a little tank or tee and under everything else you put on. Fabulous slim knits may take a backseat sometimes to their louder, bolder, chunky cousins but they are every bit as important come fall and winter weather and they have the added bonus that they can last you through spring…. MOMMA NEEDS… cold weather accessories (brrr)

We don’y get snow in LA – but in the digital world I can make it happen – for those in the polar vortex it’s time for hats, scarves and gloves!

Cold weather accessories like my favorite Missoni hat are essential for surviving winter!

Of course, try explaining this to a 2 year old who doesn’t like to be fussed over…

When the temperature drops you’ll need more than just a great coat to stay warm – cold weather accessories are an absolute must! Hats, gloves, scarves to protect your extremities and keep in the heat are essential for winter for both you and you’re little ones! Water resistant or wooly there are some great cold weather accessories that will certainly keep you bundled up and safe from the frost this season. Yes, they will do the great service of keeping you warm but they also look pretty spectacular as well so it’s really a win win situation. As for our little ones – they may not like bundling up, and at times it may appear that the frigid temperatures bother them (not when they’re having fun and playing) but keeping their little vulnerable head, hands and necks warm couldn’t be more important! MOMMA LOVES… a gilet (aka a vest)

A gilet is that perfect sleeveless layer that keeps your core warm and is super easy to layer over or under your jackets and coats.

It can be fur, fake fur, quilted but it gives you a cozy yet elegant injection of warmth.

The perfect vest you need for winter will also transition you during fall and spring when you just need it over a long sleeve top or sweater.

Clearly it makes me very happy. (and it might be all I need this winter, in Souther California, to keep me warm)

The other day, the weather here turned super crisp and I fell in love with a gilet. Some of you may not be familiar with the word gilet but you know exactly what it is, a sleeveless jacket (some might call a waistcoats of vest) and it’s the perfect item to transition you season to season and give you an extra layer of warmth in the dead of winter. They can be quilted, fur, fake fur, knit or any number of textures but they are incredibly stylish and that dreaded word for fashionistas – practical! The gilet is exactly what you need to layer over your knits now, over your jacket later and under your coat come any arctic spells… They can be perfect for our little one’s too keeping giving their core more warmth all while giving them the freedom to play in the leaves or snow.
