MOMMA NEEDS… flat sandals for the warm weather ahead!

The hot weather means its time for a cool off and time for sandals! Max in his Old Navy flip flops and me in my K. Jacques t-straps will be poolside if you need us!

The weather is warm and its time to pack all those socks in a drawer and bring out the flat sandals for summer. A great friend of mine back in New York would always look at me teetering around the city in sky high heels on location scouts and tell me, “I think it’s time you freed your feet.” I bought a pair of K Jacques St. Tropez flat sandals and never looked back! With the great warm weather ahead we want to be running around outside as much as possible so its time to invest in the appropriate footwear. Great flat sandals are a essential for the months ahead – they lwill give you the freedom to enjoy the great outdoors comfortably and stylishly. I put some sandals on Max for the first time the other day so that he could enjoy playing at his water table and running in the grass while still protecting those precious feet, they’re going to take some getting used to but boy are they cute! MOMMA LOVES… relaxed rocker tees

Guns N Roses and Mick Jagger baby! It’s only rock and roll but we like it!

As a mom and a stylist jeans are part of my uniform as they are equal parts cool and comfortable and one of my favorite things to put with them are rocker tees. Something with a soft vintage feel that gives an effortless yet stylish look. I’m not saying some oversized concert tee – these rocker tees are fitted yet slouchy, worn but still fresh. Dolce & Gabbana often include a nod to the great Hollywood and rock n’roll legends on their t-shirts (James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Mick Jagger) and that fashion but not fashion look is often the perfect pairing with your favorite pair of jeans. I have featured these rocker tees for our little ones in the past – and it’s still one of my favorite looks. My little Max in a Ramones, Beatles or Sex Pistols tee feels sweet, ironic and always fun. The fact that he has no idea who these bands are yet will soon enough… These rocker tees don’t have to be literal – its not necessarily even about the band – they could feature a designer, actor or just a general vibe that these t-shirts give off. MOMMA LOVES… born free – fashion for the greater good

This month in Vogue – check out the amazing Born Free story (photographed by Annie Leibovitz) and shop the collection to help end mother to child HIV transmission in Africa

Born Free is a collaboration between Shopbop Vogue and 22 designers (all of them moms) who have come together to design a collection of clothes for both women and kids and 100% of the profits go towards ending the transmission of HIV from mother’s to their children in Africa. Everyone from Victoria Beckham to Miuccia Prada to Carolina Herrera have gotten involved to create this collection. Having been born in South Africa and having known people who have lived and died from AIDS and being a child of the 80′s when the diagnosis was a death sentence it is beautiful to see that this disease can be beat. Mother’s with HIV do not have to spread the disease to their unborn children and Born Free is not helping to spread the awareness but is using fashion to make an actual difference (the goal is to eradicate mother to child HIV transmission before 2016). MOMMA NEEDS… summer cocktail dresses

My husband (in tails) and I (in a Thakoon cocktail dress) at a wedding awhile back – that’s right summer weddings are upon us and it’s time to figure out what to wear!

Wedding season is upon us and so it’s time to dust off those summer cocktail dresses and figure out if anyone who’s going to be at this event has seen you in it before… Well, it might be time to look for a new one because there are so many stunning dresses available and social media means everyone has already seen you in the ghost of cocktail dresses past. Since I’ve already done a post this week on clutches I figure it’s only fitting to do a focus on some beautiful spring summer cocktail dresses for all your upcoming engagements… I’m going to leave the little black dresses for another post and just focus on some of the gorgeous evening dresses that we don’t get to wear often but bring out our inner glamazon. MOMMA LOVES… embellished clothes (who doesn’t like a bit of glam)

I adore an embellished tee to add a bit of glamour to an otherwise relaxed look.

Last week I featured incredibly adorned accessories, so today I wanted to share some beautifully embellished clothes that are out there. From jackets to skirts, dresses and top incredibly adorned with jewels, embroidery, brocade and the like. Unique pieces that make fashion exciting. Embellished clothes have been flooding the runway and now filling stores at every price point and for every lifestyle. I’m not suggesting head to toe glitz and glamour – sometimes it might be just a bejeweled neckline or tasseled hemline – but these details do the accessorizing for you. Embellished clothes are also far more versatile than you might imagine – a simple tee with a bit of adornment can work just as easily with a pair of distressed denim as it can with a pencil skirt for work or dinner and even with a maxi skirt for a more formal affair. Embellished accessories are those bags and shoes that aren’t just form and aren’t just function they are next level. They are closer to art than they are to simple accessories. They are adorned, decorated and whimsical. I am always a sucker for embellished accessories because I know I will love them forever. They’re not classic, but they don’t need to be. They are special enough to withstand the test of time. My most recent purchase are the Sophia Webster butterfly shoes – I know I’lll only wear them a handful of times this year but I also know I’ll wear them for the next 10 + years because they are just so unique. Embellished accessories are beaded, bejeweled, or just plain sculptural. They’re conversation pieces and they are the outfit. Creamy pastels are the quintessential hue for spring.

Hope everyone has had a great holiday and are inspired for Spring time!

There is nothing quite so pretty as pastel clothes. Its the quintessentially feminine color that actually breathes warmth into the air and makes you want to smile. I find these subdued shades of pink, blue, yellow, green, lavender and orange refreshing and captivating. Pastel clothes are a true statement that spring has arrived. The capture attention, not in a loud in your face way, but in an interesting have to have it kind of way. The creamy hues are easy on the eyes and as lovely as they are for us they are equally sweet on our little ones. There’s a reason baby blue and pale pink are the go to favorites for expectant moms, and even how a lemon yellow or sea foam green are the most popular unisex colors. MOMMA LOVES… the preppy look – polos, chinos and shirt dresses oh my!

A preppy striped look is always clean and forever classic.

I must confess that, although I grew up in Virginia, I’ve never considered myself preppy… That said, I reserve a place in my heart for the always popular preppy look – clean, polished and classic – this style never loses it’s steam and was incredibly popular on the s/s runway. The shirt dress and various collared business casual adaptations were everywhere and, even for those of us who are less conservative, the preppy look has certainly been modified for every taste from sweet to sexy to cool. American sportswear designers from Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and Alexander Wang have always included very classic clean looks in their collections – the perfect shirt dress, the essential chino and even the polo shirt are no longer just for the southern belles and prepsters of the north east. Modern style is all about mixing various styles and at varying price points (think of my favorite Kate’s – Moss and Middleton who are style icons for their ability to mix). The preppy look can give you that refined twist to your look that polishes it off and for our little ones there really is nothing sweeter than a bit of miniature preppy. MOMMA NEEDS… cardigans for spring

It’s cardigan time – that time in between seasons when the air can get crisp and you’re happy to have the extra layer – Max and I never leave home without one!

Cardigans are a MUST have in every wardrobe. They are the perfect item of clothing to throw on when the air gets crisp or layer before the weather gets warm – they’re also great because they’re easy to toss into your bag so that you’re always prepared. This is particularly important during spring when the weather is constantly shifting and you want to make sure you and your little ones are comfortable. These lightweight cardigans aren’t going to transform a look but they certainly can withstand the test of time and trends. The key is to find cardigans that suit your personal style that are soft, comfortable, special enough for you to love them but classic enough for you to always want them. Whether you’re preppy, sporty or like a bit of an edge (my favorite cardigan actually has spikes) there are so many amazing options that can give you the extra warmth without distracting from your look… For our little ones cardigans are the quickest easiest way to add that extra layer without too much fuss. MOMMA LOVES… this Stella McCartney Kids dress

I LOVE this Stella McCartney Kids dress!!

I will probably only ever have boys… My husband is one of 5 boys and all of his brothers have boys and I LOVE my little boy and wouldn’t trade him for anything – but this Stella McCartney Kids dress makes me wish for a little girl!!! Seriously, he tulle, the stars the layers – the sweetness. This dress is just so insanely cute and sweet and darling when I saw it I fell immediately in love and had to share it with all of your mommas of little ladies… I am obsessed with the Stella McCartney Kids line anyway, she has brilliantly designed clothes for our little ones that are sweet, darling yet also incredibly cool and modern.
