Its shop the look sunday time again, but this week I wanted to take a moment to illustrate how to wear the latest trends. Basically, I’m taking some of the top trends that I have featured this week and giving you two outfits with the same item which will take you from desk to date and then from the park to brunch. So., for example, take the same graphic print skirt and pair it with a simple tee and sandals and it can easily take you from the park with the kids to brunch with the ladies (give or take some jewels) and then another option when we take that same skirt and let it take you from the office to off for the evening. Wearability is key – so when you purchase an item you want to make sure it is flexible enough to meet all your fashion needs – so let me show you some great ideas on how to wear the latest trends.

MOMMA LOVES… fab fashion under 100 dollars

Kids are expensive and yes, we have to make plenty of sacrifices… Lucky for us, just because we don’t have as much disposable income doesn’t mean we have to skimp on personal style. There is just SO much amazing fashion under 100 dollars to keep us looking chic on a budget! In fact, February 9th, another major high end meets the masses collaboration is making its debut – Peter Pilotto for Target… Mark it on your calendar’s people – not since Isabel Marant for H&M have fashionistas been in such a tizzy to get their hands on something… Peter Pilotto are a design duo based in the UK who are renowned for their incredible silhouettes and other worldly prints. Ordinarily their designs start around $1k so this is pretty major, so stay tuned for some incredible fashion for under 100 dollars from their Target collection! MOMMA LOVES… the peasant blouse

Max and I in our peasant blouses… Max’s actually came from his Papou’s last trip to Greece!

The peasant blouse is both simple yet chic and beautiful. There’s a nostalgia about it – a peasant blouse always take me back to my childhood when my mom would dress me in smocked dresses (which she would make herself) and little embroidered blouses which seemed to highlight my greek heritage… There is a bohemian simplicity to the look which allows it to be referential yet still very modern. The peasant blouse will always be popular among women and children because its comfortable, sweet and feminine without being overly fussy. Its timeless and while it may have been what my Greek ancestors wore on a little island over a hundred years ago, it is also what I wear today. Whether I’m running errands or going out for dinner – its universal appeal has never wavered. You really can’t tell whether a peasant blouse was bought from Barneys or on the side of a road in Spain. In fact, you will find that a lot of designers who feature a peasant blouse in their collections were inspired from their travels. Its funny to think back to the peasant blouses of my childhood and see that those tops are still as ever present in the kids market today. I love the boho baby look an the peasant blouse is the easiest way to accomplish the look. Of course, for little boys, it may be more about the fabric, the fit or overall feel – clearly there is not a huge market for boys blouses, but check out some of my favorite peasant blouses for us and our mini-me’s!

MOMMA LOVES… leather jackets (that aren’t black)

Flashback to when I was about 6 months pregnant – me and some girlfriends getting made over by a 4 year old and rocking our leather jackets (none of them black)

Great leather jackets never go out of fashion. They’re the perfect item to have in every wardrobe to give you that extra warmth as well as that extra bit of style. I’m sure most of us have acquired at least one leather jacket – but I’m not talking about the classic one in black…. I’m talking about show stopping leather jackets that AREN’T black. Just in time for spring (and the eventual end to the polar vortex) leather jackets are everywhere and they are in the most amazing colors – from safer browns and treys to white, light pink and various other dusty colors. They’re soft, supple and gorgeous! The brilliant thing about a great leather jacket that’s classic and beautiful is that, while it might be one of the most expensive things in your wardrobe, it will also be the item you wear the most and for the longest. Max’s Toms and My Louboutins are getting ready for a nod to nautical this summer!

One of the most classic and ever present trends is the nautical look – its clean, polished, elegant and and overall effortless classic. I recently did a post on stripes and thought I needed to follow it up with a nod to nautical accessories. There are just so many beautiful options out there that can add that extra bit of something special to your look. Nautical accessories don’t have to be all anchors and rope – the sailor vibe can be accomplished with something striped or a simple as anything red, white and/or blue color. MOMMA WANTS… fabulous shoes

That’s right, my birthday is just a week away and as a consolation prize (a prize to console me about getting a year older) I’m hoping for some fabulous shoes to lift my spirits! Its not every day I turn 27 (wink wink – I’d also like to lose a decade for my birthday) and it’s good to want things – so I wanted to share with you some of the fabulous shoes that are new, fresh, and might one day be mine… These are the aspirational shoes – the, are these shoes or are they art? shoes. These are the fabulous shoes that people will be talking about around the water cooler tomorrow (well, if you work at Conde Nast anyway). MOMMA KNOWS… accessories make the outfit

There’s no question, as a stylist, accessories make the outfit. The bits and pieces we choose to put with a look can dress it up, down and turn it from boring to fabulous. Now, I have a love affair with my bags and shoes, but that’s not what I’m talking about in this post…. I’m talking about all the other (sometimes forgotten) accessories - belts, hats, scarves, statement jewelry – that can transform a little black dress or simple jeans and t-shirt. I have never been much of a belt person but I love my scarves – my classic look is jeans or leggings with a simple top, blazer and scarf – its all about the details. An incredible piece of statement jewelry can be all you need to turn a simple walk in the park outfit to a night not the town outfit. Investing in classic pieces and then letting the accessories make the outfit has been a long time style secret of fashionistas everywhere. My little boy hasn’t quite gotten into accessorizing, but I can’t resist how adorable he looks in his amber teething necklace! MOMMA NEEDS… bras that are meant to be seen

This may sound crazy since we have always been taught that bra straps should always remain hidden, and in general this is a good rule of thumb. However, lingerie today has changed – bras can be just as much a part of an overlook at anything else – the key is a bit of peek-a-boo without ever being overly exposed. The thing is, as a mom – a mom that nursed my little one – well, lets just say that the ladies will never be the same… I, as many of you, will always need some extra support. Forget about going braless – that’s not going to happen, but even strapless bras aren’t always enough support… So what to do when so many tops and dresses are low back, punging, open at the sides or sheer… Well, why not make a statement with your undergarment. A pop of bright color, or even better yet, a more architecturally designed bra. I have been a HUGE fan of the Marlies Dekkers lingerie and have personally used their bras on celebrities for red carpet appearances, tv shows as well as for magazine editorials. The Marlies bras are meant to be shown and have been featured on everyone from Lady Gaga to Britney Spears, Miranda Lambert and countless others. Remember the key to bras that are meant to be seen is not about full exposure – its about the details – perhaps you see a pop of color peeking through some sheer or the top detailing from a Marlies bra in a low cut blouse or tank – its the question of – is that part of the top or is it the bra? Its one part cheeky and one part fashion. And the bonus is it’s 100% the support that we mommy’s need!
