MOMMAS WANT… great mothers day gifts

Whatever I get from my little one for Mother’s Day I will treasure forever… I’m hoping it starts with a hug.

May 11th is just around the corner so it’s time to start thinking about Mothers Day gifts. MOMMA LOVES… personal jewelry

I do. I love personal jewelry – it’s the things I put on everyday or never take off – the accessories I feel connected with almost like a second skin. Either these pieces have special meaning to me because they were given to me by my loved ones or there’s just something about them that I connect with. Personal jewelry are the earrings, bracelets, necklaces that don’t get in the way, don’t distract but give your look a bit of something extra special – a sparkle and unique touch. I almost consider these jewels to be like a perfume – something that you’ve chosen to represent you in a subtle yet lingering way. Don’t get me wrong – I love statement pieces too – an oversized necklace can truly transform an outfit, but the simpler more delicate pieces are the ones that get the most wear. MOMMA LOVES… neon accessories for women and kids!

Obsessed with a pop of neon – my favorite Valentino pink patent flats and Max’s electric grid Vans playing in the ball pit!

So, following up on last weeks post – today I’m featuring some of my very favorite things – neon accessories! As I mentioned previously, I just love a great bold wild pop of color and nowhere does it work better than with accessories. Bags, shoes and jewels are truly what makes an outfit. They transform your classic pieces into stylish modern looks. Neon accessories are enormously popular among top design houses, Yves Saint Laurent and Valentino recently so make no mistake, this is a trend that is here to stay. Highlighter shades of pink, yellow, orange and green are attention grabbing and incredibly chic! Prints prints prints are everywhere! Graphic prints, which can be anything from an exact photo print to an abstract illustration, is super popular right now! The technology designers have now make these graphic prints incredibly real, beautiful and unique. Whether the print is hyper realistic or a more vague interpretation its almost a way of wearing art. Ricardo Tisci for Givenchy has been sending these graphic prints down the runway for several years now and those designs instantly become the must haves for every fashionista and Mary Katrantzou became and instant designer when she first debuted enormous jewelry prints in her debut collection. Whether you call it, trompe l’oeil, photo print, graphic prints – one thing is for sure – these printed pieces are attention grabbing, special and on every one’s must have list. Of course, our children have been wearing graphic prints all along begging the question of whether the appeal of a poppy print comes from our childhood and who’s influencing who? Graphic prints are fierce, fabulous and fun – they can be referential, exquisite, ironic or just humorous. Regardless, they are statement pieces and something special that everyone should have in their closet. MOMMA KNOWS… accessories make the outfit

There’s no question, as a stylist, accessories make the outfit. The bits and pieces we choose to put with a look can dress it up, down and turn it from boring to fabulous. Now, I have a love affair with my bags and shoes, but that’s not what I’m talking about in this post…. I’m talking about all the other (sometimes forgotten) accessories - belts, hats, scarves, statement jewelry – that can transform a little black dress or simple jeans and t-shirt. I have never been much of a belt person but I love my scarves – my classic look is jeans or leggings with a simple top, blazer and scarf – its all about the details. An incredible piece of statement jewelry can be all you need to turn a simple walk in the park outfit to a night not the town outfit. Investing in classic pieces and then letting the accessories make the outfit has been a long time style secret of fashionistas everywhere. My little boy hasn’t quite gotten into accessorizing, but I can’t resist how adorable he looks in his amber teething necklace! MOMMA NEEDS… the perfect tee for women and kids

Max and I are in our uniforms – relaxed and comfortable in our favorite tees.

The absolute must have item in every wardrobe is the perfect tee. Nothing serves our purposes more than the t-shirt that looks great, fits great and can effortlessly give us both the comfort and style we want. But, what is the perfect tee? It is 100% about the fit and then the rest is up to you – the boyfriend tee shrunken down and tailored, softly worn, low cut and sexy or slouchy and cool – its the item we wear the most and when you find the perfect tee you buy it in bulk. Now a days the t-shirt market is enormous – there is literally a cut, color and variation for every possible need/want. The truth is, much like the perfect jeans, having a great t-shirt to throw on which allows you to feel and look great without having to over think your look is priceless (but not pricey). Nothing is more classic than jeans and a t-shirt, so its just a matter of finding the perfect one (or ones) that suit your style. Of course, for our little ones, t-shirts are certainly the easiest and most comfortable things for them to wear. The key is the softness of the fabric for your babies delicate skin. A soft worn cotton is so easy to put them in (which is essential for babies and kids that are constantly moving around and not always cooperating) and always comfortable whether they’re running around in the garden or taking a nap. I have found the Splendid and Nununu lines to be the best – their cotton is brushed and softer than a babies bottom – certainly more expensive – so always good to keep an eye out when these lines go on sale! MOMMA LOVES… heart prints – lets get ready for Valentines Day!

Valentines Day is once again upon us – it seems like the Christmas dust has only begun to settle and yet when I look around there are heart prints everywhere. A holiday based on expressing your love for one another can’t be the worst thing and, to be fair, I really love heart prints. I know I did a post a few months back on the love motif but I guess we could always use more love! Children’s clothes will always feature plenty of love messages and heart prints because our children are the ultimate symbol of love but make no mistake there are lots of options for us as well! Everything from jewelry to bags, shoes, tops and dresses feature the widely popular symbol of love and its will always be an iconic, wearable and feminine print. I know this week I have been heavily focused on prints – but it just seems that women are looking for a way to wear their heart on their sleeves (ha ha ha – I couldn’t help myself). But seriously, if what we wear can put a bit more love into the world why not celebrate it. Heart prints will always be a popular, feel good trend.
